HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-02-11-AC-MIN.pdf 71 at 7:30 P.M., The Appropriation Committee held a meeting/on Thursday, February 11, 1971, in the office of the Comptroller, Estabrook Hall , Lexington. Present were Edward E . Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, Vice Chair- man, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, Arthur T . Bernier, J. H. Blais- dell, Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, Richard M. Perry, Comp- troller and Donald B. White . Meeting was held with members of the School Committee-Robert Farwell, Chairman, Richard Eaton, Jack Maguire and Vernon Page and Superinten- dent of School, Rudoljhh Fobert . Chairman Furash reviewed his Committee' s position that $100,000. could be cut from the School Expense budget and that 10 people or ap- proximtately .0 0,000. could be cut from the Personal Service budget. The pupil-teacher ratio has dropped and a cut of 10 people is not un- realistic . In the expense budget special programs and new programs could be eliminated. Chairman Farwell explained salary budgets are still under negotiation and could not be fully discussed, at this time . Chairman Furash stated that any increases should be covered by the reduced budget since if an increase is granted there will be an ll% increase, butifthey hold the line in negotiations a 3% increase will be made . He also requested that a new budget, reflecting the reductions, be submitted to his Committee . The School representatives retired from the meeting at 10:30 P.M. Discussion was held as to the method of treating possible raises in the Police and Fire Departments, since thesd two budgets are ,still in negotiation in collective bargaining. The next meeting MAW is scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 1971. The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Elizabeth M.
