HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-02-06-AC-MIN.pdf ri The Appropriation Committee held a meeting at 9:00 A.M., on Satur- day, February 6, 1971, in the office of the Comptroller, Estabrook Hall, Lexington . Present were Edward E. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, Vice Chairman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, J. Harper Blaisdell, Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, H. Bigelow Moore, Richard M. Perry, Comptroller and Donald B. White. The meeting adjourned to meet with the Selectmen at 10:00 A.M., in the Bird Room. Present were Robert Cataldo, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, Selectmen Kenney, Greeley and Mabee, Town Manager O'Connell and Town Engineer Mc Sweeney. �--� Discussion was held on the over-all budgets . On the DPW expense budgets we are about $25,000. apart. The Sanitary Land Fill and Garbage Collection budgets were reviewed. The Selectmen will try to reduce the budgets by $9,000. and will report to the Committee on next Monday. Acct. #1700 - Group Insurance - Chairman Cataldo explained that the question of the payment of '2/3' s of the premiums instead of 1/2 was placed on the ballot because of the collective bargaining.. He felt g g that the Town should vote this . Chairman Furash stated that the Appropriation Committee will take a negative position on this to the public and also on the floor of Town Meeting. Acct. #1750 - Municipal Insurance - Is $2,000. controllable? Acct. #1775 - Law P.S. - $33,000. is requested. Chairman Cataldo explained that this amount may change in view of the fact that more help for this department may be requested. The amount may stay the same or it may go higher by $2,000. With respect to Appropriation's position on the School budget, Chair- man Furash explained the action that the Committee will take on the floor of Town Meeting if the School Committee does not reduce their requests. Discussion on the Warrant Articles is as follows: Art. ;015 - $8,000. is requested to enlarge the entire Westview Cemetery. This amount would do 2 years work at one time . Art. #16 - Curbings - $5,000. Selectmen say can not cut back Art. #17 - Drains - $41,000. Selectmen say can not cut back Art. #18 - Water Mains - 825,000. - Spring Street Art. #19 - Sidewalks - $45,000. - Hill Street is the priority. Selectmen feel this is essential. Appropriations would prefer to see $30,000. in this budget. Art . #20 - Sewer Mains - proposed as follows: Bennington Road 1 41,000. York Street 35,000. Minutes of meeting held on February 6, 1971 - page 2 Art. #20 - Sewer Mains - continued: Bridle Path 11,000. Hill Street 41,000. Leeland Terrace 5,000. Wingate Road 11,000. North Street 8,000. Revere Street 35,000. Lantern Lane ( ?) 19,000. East Street 88,000. Valley Road 8,000. Partridge Road 130,000. Appropriations would like to see the total reduced and such total to include the $75,000. already approved. Art. #21J - DPW - $70,000. - Equipment - This figure is $10,000. over the original request. The breakdown on equip- ment to be purchased will be typed for the Committee . The amount is approximately $37,800. The Road Machinery - Capital Outlay will request a Mist Blower and 2 Sanders . Art. #25 - Streets - Servs & plans - $25,000. - Spring St. All other mcne y articles were discussed, but further clarification on Articles #31 through #36 will be forthcoming. These include —_ the purchase of the Ashley-Steeves property (2 parcels) , layout of Worthen Road and Chapter 90 Articles for Worthen Road and East St. Chairman Furash repeated the Committee' s request that no new personnel be added.
