January 18, 1971, in the office of the Comptroller, Estabrook Hall,
Lexington. Present were Edward E. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell,
Vice Chairman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, J. H. Blaisdell,
Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, Richard M. Perry, Comptroller,
and Donald B . White.
Meeting was held at 7:00 P.M., in Cary Hall, with representatives
of major Town Boards. The meeting was sponsored by the Cary Library
Trustees to gain a feeling of the Boards with respect to an addi-
tion to the present library or relocation, with an entirely new
building, on the Barnes or Central Block property. Questions were
asked and at the close of the meeting Selectman Mabee suggested
lf� that each Board appoint a representative to meet with the Library
,--i Trustees to discuss the plans in greater detail.
The Committee adjourned to the Police Station for photographs to
be included in the Town Report.
Meeting was reconvened, at 8:00 P.M., in the office of the Comptroller.
The 1971 budgets that have been received were reviewed, at this time ,
and a more in depth study will be made at a later time.
Further discussion was held on the following:
1970 approved budget total $2,218,823.
1970 actual expenditures 2,156,327.
1971 budget requests ( as 2,386,122.
of this date )
The Chairman stated that of the 1971 requests approximately E
$35,000. represents false savings and comparisons are inappropriate .
He suggested that in Accounts #7800,8500 and 8550, Debt and Retire-
ment but not Insurance, savings could be made, since of the 1970
approved budget of $607,296 only $567,061 was ex ended. He f e s
that $20 000. to $30 000. could be reduced rom the 1971 resuested

the Committee would like to see a 5% cut made on submitted budgets .
The next meeting night is scheduled for Monday, January 25, 1971,
to meet with the Town Manager.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 P.M.
