The Appropriations Committee held a meeting at 7:30 P.P.Q., on Monday,
November 23, 1970, in the office of the Comptroller, Estabrook Hall,
Lexington. Present were Edward E. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell ,
Vice Chairman, J. H. Blaisdell, Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston,
H. Bigelow Moore, Richard M. Perry, Comptroller and Donald B . White .
Meeting was held at 7:30 with the Permanent Building Committee. Pre-
sent were Thomas Taylor, Chairman of PBC,. Rudolph Fobert, Superinten-
dent of Schools and members of the School Committee and Capital Ex-
penditures Committee.
Bids are to be returned on January 5, 1971 for the proposed Jr. High
which is to be acted upon at the Special Town Meeting on January 11,
1971. The building has been moved back on the property to a better
In location nearer Franklin School. It will contain just under 120,000
sq. feet with reductions having been made over the originalbuilding
proposed in areas of library, auditorium and lunch room. Estimated
cost of the project, at this time, is $4,700,000. Electric heating
is to be used, and paper plates, plastic utensils in the lunch pro-
gram so that less facilities for hot water will be necessary. Cost
of site preparations includes laying out all fields, backstops, etc .
R. Fobert guesses that 100 to 150 pupils would leave grades 9 - 12
to attend a Regional Vocational High School.
nuestions were raised as to the Stedman Road Article in the Special
TM, and its cost . Information is to be requested from Town Manager.
Meeting was held at 8:30 P.M. with the Board of Health. Present were
Dr. Cosgrove, Dr. Ellicott and Robert Heustis, Health Director. Also
present ,was Frank H. Totman, Jr. of the Lexington Visting Nurses As-
sociation. The LVNA has three full time, three part time nurses, a
secretary and a physiotherapist to handle communicable diseases, clinics,
T . B. cases, etc ., with payments being made by patients, in some cases,
and other payments coming under Medicare, Blue Cross, Cancer Society,
United Fund and from the $4,000. paid by the Town. 939 visits on be-
half of the Brd. of Health were made between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31, 1970.
They have raised their cost per visit from 87.50 to $9 .00 as of Nov. 1
and are asking $1,000. from the Town for extra payment for 1970, with
a budget request for $5,000. for 1971.
A letter from the Comm. of Mass . - Committee on law enforcement and
administration of Criminal Justice - was read and it advises that the
Town will receive $918 . as a result of installing Police Teleprocessing
Terminals this year. A Check for .$695. , in part payment, was received.
RESERVE FUND TRANSFERS :
Acct. #3300 Health Dept. 81,000.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to
approve the requested amount
