The Appropriations Committee held a meeting at 7:45 P.M., on Monday,
January 5, 1970 in the Comptroller' s Office, Town Office Building,
Lexington. Members present were Robert M. Gary, Chairman, Edward E.
Furash, Vice Chairman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, Richard M.
Perry, Comptroller, J. H. Blaisdell, Levi G. Burnell, Jack L. Mitchell,
H. Bigelow Moore and Donald B. White.
After discussion, upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED
that the Committee recommends that the cost of living increase shall
not exceed 6%. The Comptroller shall so inform the Board of Selectmen.
With respect to the breaking of parity, the Committee shall not make
„.„1 any proposal or recommendation at this time.

It was suggested that perhaps an over-all budget of $70,000. could
be approved, rather than the requested $81,465 by the Police Depart-
ment and the reduced budget of $74,815. approved by the Selectmen.
Acct. # 300 - Civil Defense personal services - step increase
requests for a Senior Clerk will be questionned.
At 10:30 P.M. Selectmen Chairman Cataldo and Town Engineer McSweeney
joined the meeting. A request for a possible Reserve Fund transfer
v
of $20,000. to complete road construction was made. Chairman Gary
advised that as of this date the Reserve Fund was closed and
suggested that an Article for this amount be submitted in the
Warrant for the annual Town Meeting.
With respect to Acct. #3750-Police personal services- R. Perry will
question Executive Ass stant Gray as to the hour y rates for Holiday
and Special Duty pay and also the proposed increase in pay for the
Crossing Guards .
The next meeting is scheduled for 7:45 P.M., on Monday, January 12,
1970, in the Comptroller' s Office to consider the budget of the
Department of Public Works.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 P .M.
