Whereas: in 1872,J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day
be set aside for the planting of trees; and
i3'hereas: this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of rnore than a million
trees in Nebraska; and
Whereas: Arbor Day is naw observed throughout the nation and the world; and
Whereas: trees can reduce the erasion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and
cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat
for wildlife; and
Whereas: trees are a renewable resaurce giving us paper, wood far our homes, fuel for our fires and
countless other wood products;and
Whereas: trees in our town increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas,
and beautify our community; and
Whereas: this year the Town of Lexington has once again been recognized as a Tree City USA, the
33rd year far this designation.
NOW, THEREFORE, WE THE SELECT B+�ARD of the Town of Lexington, Massachusetts, do hereby
proclaim Friday,April 29, 2022 as
Arbor Day
in the Town of Lexington and we urge all citizens to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands
and to support our town's urban forestry prograrn; and further, urge all citizens to plant and protect trees
to promote the well being of present and future generations.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we have set our hands and caused the seal of Lexington to be affixed herewith
an the 21�`of March 2022.
