Perry, Comptroller; G. Kelovson; R. Souza; E. Furash Veterans Aid and Expenses $1325 set aside for this purpose did not have to be transferred. Trustees of Public Trusts transferred funds. :Ielfare 3udget discussed with James Collins, Director 3223,000 requested for the year 1938 for all forms of assistance. This is a an increase of $45,078 over the 1907 appropriation. Mr. Collins stated that Medical assistance, which accounts for most of the increase, is still dif: icult to predict. Ilis experience with November requests indicates tact his estimate may be close to correct. Committee will check with him again closer to March to see if the neer forms now in use affect trends. Budget for one—half the year (should the legislature fund the delfaee program and take it over July 1) would be about one—half the amount now requested. Expenses do not vary significantly from month to month, but are fairly evenly spread throughout the year. :3udp;eta approved 41450 $425 approved 41550 $1,300 approved until additional funds requested are explained Reserve Fund Requests $1250 requested for changes made in the Clerk/Treasurer's offices and the Comptroller's office. Voted to transfer $1250 from Reserve Fund. $400 requested by Al Grey for Police Expenses, to pay for damaged motor vehicle. Committee had delayed making this transfer, suggesting that it might be taken out of general expense budget. Unexpended Jalance is now $41581, bills total $1150, uncommitted balance will probably be needed before the end of the year. Voted to transfer $400 from deserve Fund to Police Expense budget. Lincoln Street, survey of former dump site. Selectmen won't need the 31000 requested for this survey. School Committee is making this amount available. Salary Schedule. Selectmen have adopted the recommendations of the Salary Study Committee. These include increasing police patrolmen's starting salaries to 06700 (Chief had requested $6000) , and increasing Chief's salary by $2,000 (Chief had requested $3,000). Vacation Town now gives 3 .reeks after 10 years, 4 after 20 years. Study Committee recommended m tching School Dept. which gives 3 weeks after 6 years, 4 after 15. Selectmen approved 3 weeks after 8 years, 4 weeks after 18 years. Fire Dept. — schedule same as police Public dorks Dept. — hourly rate went up 3A only, because last year it was increased greatly to bring it in line. School s3uJ;et Logan Clarke suggested that Appropriations Committee and School Committee meet in the High School Science Lecture Hall early in Jannuary. The total school budget which has been approved by tne School Committee is $7,822,511, a 13% increase over 1007; personal services have increased 14.1% to $6,652,000. Respectfully submitted, Guth P.
