Foreman (at Jestview). They wish to have a Lead man (at Munroe).

17400 — Expenses
Backhoe (U $7,000) requested. This and the extra men would enable them
to expand Sunset Ridge, the back ead of cemetery.
Backhoe will dig a grave in 20 min. compared with 5 hours hand digging.
Development and expansion of destview are allowed for in an Article
in the warrant each year. There is $7,500 available from previous years'
Articles plus $4,000 in 1967 warrant. Committee felt the backhoe's
principal use would be for development and expansion rather than for
cemetery operation which seems to need no more than 60 hours backhoe
work per year.
Compressor (00 42,070) requested. PdD compressor cannot be relied upon
to be available when needed by cemetery. Committee suggested that
Civil Defense department has compressors which might be more available.
Ce,etery Commissioners will check with Mr. Burrell.

Install Yater Colonial Cemetery— money was allowed in 1966 budget for
this purpose, work was not done, money spent for something else.
Overtime — Commissioners have ruled that men will oe paid for 4 hours
if they come in on Saturday. Two men are required for Sat. burial.
There have been about 30 Sat. burials in 1966. Allow about, 31200 for
overtime. Additional 31800 requested for overtime if they do not
get the backhoe. This would be for grave—digging on Saturday for Monday
burials. I . backhoe is purchased, all grave—digging could be done
during regular five—day week, the only overtime would be for funerals
on Saturday.

Tax Rate — rough computation shows possible 38 increase. Frank Parrish
suggests that we try to reduce Art. 4 by 3250,000 ( $150,000 from School
budget, 3100,000 from remainder) and other Articles by $400,000. This
would result in about a 44 tax increase. Selectmen agreed to go over
the budgets and attempt to reduce them by these amounts. Committees
will meet a,;ain next Monday.
Respectfully submitted,
Ruth F. Souza, secretary
