Committee voted to approve budget of $9,800 for personal services d4300

Out—of—state travel request is for the purpose of sending two
assistants to the meeting of Civil Defense people; Mr. Burrell's
expenses are paid by the Association, of which he is President.
Mr. Lerro' s answer to request for his ruling on whether budgets to be
read at Town Meeting should be as recommended 'a; the department or by
Appropriation Committee 4as received from Kr. Gray at the end of this
meeting. Mr. Legro reviewed the past policy of the Town, stated that he
'found no law which indicated that what the Town Las been doing is wrong' ,
and gave his advice that the Town should not change this procedure.
He had also given his advice to the Selectmen, in answer to their request
for a ruling, with respect to their inserting an Article nn kindergartens.
Rollowing his suggestion, the Selectmen had voted not to insert such
an Article.

Meeting of Appropriation Committee, Jed. Jan. 25, 1967, 8:00 p.m.
Present: F. Parrish; R. Gary; D. Grant; A. Kenney; R. Perry; R. Souza
John Carroll came to discuss Public Works budgets.
Budget requests as approved by the Selectmen were read; many showed
increases due to salary changes by the Salary Advisory Committee.
Asst. Supt. of Pub. Works is to go to new building. John Car oll
requests an Administrative Assistant, a new position, mainly to make
studies and improve the operation of the Dept. IIe also requests
two additional clerks, one for nem building, one here. Committee
suggests one girl and use of clerical pool while getting Admin. Asst. ,
then see what is needed. He would agree to this.
Operating budgets were explained by Carroll but not discussed by
Committee. Articles mere not discussed at all, will be taken up at
next meeting with John.
