HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-11-17-LEX250-min RECEIVED 2022 22 I uir, � d aim Town of Lexington, Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex250) I OWN CLERK Wednesday, November 17, 2021 LEXINGTON Virtual 4:02 pm - 5:25 pm Present Members: Suzie Barry (Select Board Member), Steve Conners (Reenactment Community), Barry Cunha(Local Business Representative), Bebe Fallick (Tourism Committee Representative), Cerise Jalelian (Town Celebrations Committee Representative), Julie O'Leary (Civic Representative), Mona Roy (Community Representative) and Jillian Tung (Music & Arts Representative) Absent Members: Paul O'Shaughnessy (Historical Organization Representative) Guest: Jacob 1. Welcome from Ms. Barry 2. Minutes - Motion to Approve 10/20/21 Meeting Minutes made by Ms. Barry, seconded by Mr. Cunha Approved 9-0 by roll call. 3. Logo Contest and Timing Discussions on parameters: • Who can participate: Discussion among all on whether it should be limited to LHS and Minuteman and ultimately everyone agreed that it should be open to any Lexington resident student that is in high school so that the process is more inclusive • Ms. Tung noted submissions for contest must be digital and clear enough to be shown on digital platforms; must be original work; Mr. Roy noted there must be parental consent for minors; must sign over all IP rights in work; • IP rights triggered discussion on need to discuss legal issues with Town Counsel. • Who will judge: Group discussion resulted in recommendation of a panel of 5 people,preferably with no ties to high school students should judge (Final make up TBD )but suggested following make up: 1. Historical Society (will ask Mr. O'Shaughnessy to reach out) 2. Chamber of Commerce (Ms. Roy will reach out to Erin Sandler Rathe of Chamber of Commerce) 3. Lex Art—Ms. Tung will reach out to Matt Seigel of LexArt 4. Person with experience in graphic design, marketing, Ms. Tung will reach out to -- Kimberly Hensley of Community Endowment Lexington who has previous experience with logos, 5. Lex250 member TBD • Discussion on prize: Suggestion $250 stipend for awardee (some would come from $50K from State thanks to Rep Ciccolo); Discussion on if$250 is enough since $300 given for the doors at LHS; decision to award $250 and then $100 each for the two runner ups • Motion: Mr. Connors motion to offer $250 honorarium for designing the logo $100 each for the two runner ups as selected by the Jury; Second: Ms. Fallick • Group discussion of Possible Timeline—Ms. Barry suggested mid-December of 2021 —start accepting submissions early to mid Feb with a goal to unveiling to public meeting March; Ms. Tung said more time was needed for judging 4. Next steps re: Publicity/Entity Formation • Members agreed that we need further discussion on logo logistics • Also need discussion on developing website, hashtags; other social media— publicity • Ms. Tung suggests that Lex250 have 1-2 HS kids per year for social media tasks; they would earn community service hours; there would be adult review;perhaps collaborate with Sean Dugan • While 300'h was done just through town but Lex250 may need its own entity • Mr. Connors — suggest possible having Town Counsel come to meeting to tackle multiple issues but Ms. Barry noted limited availability and would try to reach out on immediate issues • Mr. Cunha suggests having a meeting to hear from Lex Historical Society to understand what they are doing • Ms. O'Leary suggested adding working with Yorktown; • Ms. Barry suggested asking 400th Plymouth people coming to speak with us • Group discussion to confirm on what should be the consistent language (Lex250 to go with America 250) • Group looked at website and looked at logo. Ms. Fallick thought it was ok and Ms. Tung really liked it. • Ms. Tung suggested that Ashley Rooney of Arts Council may be able to help with writing publicity materials 5. Homework from last time—groups that should/could be in video • Ms. Roy—cultural groups (ABCL, Brazilian Cultural Group, BALEX, CAAL, CALEX, IAL, JPLEX, KOLEX, Lextinas, LexPride); LICA; commercial (Lexington Retailers Assoc and Chamber of Commerce); Social groups (Lions Cub; Rotary); School Community (PPC; PTA, FOLMADS, Debate, Student Govt, Student Clubs, Athletes); Govt(Select Board, and School Committee); Historical Society; Garden Club • Ms. Tung added: Fife & Drum and American Bicentennial Band and suggested the possibility that we might look into getting special composition for this event • Ms. O'Leary: Daughters of the American Revolution; Minutemen; other Reenactors; Sister City Antony; should we try to match a spring background to inspire, who can they come up; spring; flags; looking at backdrops; 6. Further outreach 0 Mr. Connors —reaching out to other towns and cities called Lexington (KY, SC); • Ms. Fallick mentioned the idea of finding miniature John Parkers 7. Future Meeting Dates & Agenda Topics • Meeting on finalizing details on logo—Monday 11/29 at 4 pm. • Regular monthly meeting 12/15 at 4 pm • Think about if we need extra meetings for Historical Society,presenters from State level work on 250, 8.
