• Welcome
• Discuss the DRAFT - Bowman School Innovation Plan - Site Council
members were asked to review the:
13 Copy of Bowman Innovation Plan FINAL DRAFT (SC) in advance of the meeting
and come prepared to offer feedback and ask questions. Mr. Van Deurse's
impression of the plan to implement co-teaching classrooms, 2nd-5th grade, was
that it seemed we "predetermined" that it would be successful. Ms. Corduck
responded by stating that we were relying on information from the current pilot in
fifth grade. He cautioned that some parents may perceive the move to co-teaching
as a reduction in special education services for their student. To which Ms. Corduck
shared our mandate to provide students with the "least restrictive environment."

• Mr. Van Deurse also asked about how the message was communicated to parents
that their child was placed in a co-taught classroom. Ms. Corduck said that the
placement letter that is emailed to every family mid-August conveyed the message
that there would be two teachers in their child's classroom. Two families reached
out with follow up questions which were easily addressed in email. related
• Mr. Zhang reiterated that the selection process of which students are placed in the
co-taught classroom along with the criteria to evaluate the "program" will be
critical.
• Ms. Murali inquired about the "Bowman Mentor Program". She asked for clarification
on how students are selected to participate. Ms. Corduck replied that we rely on
staff recommendations for which students are invited to be mentored and that
parents/caregivers are contacted for permission to participate in the program.
• Ms. Loof wanted to make sure that the language in the plan regarding the library
furniture upgrade was clear in that it is contingent on the budget being approved
for the 2023 school year.
• Mr. Zhang asked what type of mental health support is available for staff. He
recognized that we've all been through alot this year and staff's mental well being is
as important as our students. Ms. Barbacano shared that there is an employee
wellness program that offers a wide variety of support from counseling to financial
planning to childcare resources.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:21.
