Verbal request from Robert Cataldo for a transfer of funds to Selectmen's
out—of—state travel budget to pay fare of a Lexington delegation to
Mexico City to take part in the Dolores Hidalgo Independence Day cele—
bration, Sept. 14-16, 1966. Selectmen would like to send Mr. Cole,
Mr. Cataldo, and Mrs Johnson (High School principal). Invitation had
been accepted last April when it was believed that a plane would be

and Dept. of Defense will not make plane available. Fare is $280 per
person; expenses in Mexico will be paid by Dolores Hidalgo.

information not later than Oct. 10. (Salary Committee will be ready
to report to Selectmen by the end of September. )

Meeting of the Appropriation Committee, Sept. 19, 1966, 7:30 p.m.
Present: Donald Noyes, Acting Chairman; John Blaisdell; Robert Gary;
Allan Kenney; Richard Perry; Louis Zehner; i41th Souza
Cemetery Commissioner: James L. Grant, Chairman
Mr. Grant had requested transfer from the Reserve Fund of $500 for
overtime pay, and transfer of $346 to pay for repair of fence,(see
minutes August 1, 1966). Frank Parrish had written a letter
requesting that they pay the fence bill out of their Expense budget,
and requesting them to meet to discuss need for overtimeand budget
procedures in general.
Expense budget — Mr. Grant stated that all remaining money is committed;
this includes $600 for installing a water line. The $600 unspent
in 1965 and returned to the Town was committed for this water main,
they anticipate it will be installed this year. Approp. Ctee. again
recommends paying the outstanding bill for fence. Committee would
favor a transfer from Reserve Fund if their 1966 appropriation is
spent as planned and they need the $346 before the end of the year.

Overtime
Overtime forecast has been low in previous years, $500 was trans—
ferred last year, $500 requested this year.
Mr. Grant stated that overtime was paid only in case of Saturday
or Monday burials, not for general maintenance. Overtime had
been spent in emergency, at time of vault cave—in.
Recommend better esti•.:sting of need; Mr. Perry will institute
a more detailed accounting procedure which should aid in forecasting.
Next year's budget will be discussed with this in mind.
Reimbursement
Mr. Grant believed that charges made by Cemetery were higher when
over—time help was used. He could not say whether the charge in each
case was exactly equal to wages paid.
Questions — Appropriation Committee would like to know:
Total receipts of Cemetery Dept.
On what do they base their rates? Wages, overhead included?
Perpetual care receipts — compare with maintenance costs
Sale of lots — compare with capital costs
