Personal Services — Fire Department. Longevity not a factor here
Selectmen present to discuss Mass. Ave. and Hunt Block.
Appropriation committee opposed. Chairman said it will cost $500,000
on this exchange of property. Mr. Gary said that this was only
the removal of two old buildings in the center of the town and that
e--i the change was not absolutely necessary. Unanimous vote of Selectmen
that Mass. Ave. needs to be widened. Every lease in Hunt block expired
January 1, 1965. Planning Board wants Mass. Ave. widened.
Selectmen recommend $50,000 cash, bond $200,000.
Appropriation Committee against Article, but,if it is passed, recommends
$50,000 cash, bond $200,060
Fire Dept. Personal services — new figure $324,464. Decrease in
hours nice, but they also want the money — parity with Police.
George Sheldon spoke against any increase and ggainst parity.
School Sites Committee and Conservation Committee.
$230,000 needed for land. Conservation wants the entire piece, if
not needed for school site. $70,000 may be needed for the portion
of this land which School Sites Committee is considering. This would
not be subject to reimbursement. Remaining $160,000 for conservation
land would probably be 50% reimbursed.
