II . RECREATION
The following points were made by the Chairman;
1. We are struggling with the very real question of
the size , scope and general cost to the Town.
2. Can the life of the present pool be extended?
The following points were made by members of the Recreation
Committee :
1. Must make provisions for the handicapped - ramps, etc .
2. There is a definite intent to improve the competitive
instructional capability aspect of the pool. Additional
cost of $45,000 to build a diving pool.
3. Users of the pool : 600 a day during the week; 300 a day
during the weekend.
4. Utilities cost: $38 , 000 electrical - $26,000 storm drainage -
$7,000 sewers.
5. Chairman White asked the Recreation Committee to update the
costs of extending the life of the present pool.
6 . It was stated by Mr. Wells that the abutters are not
happy with the present plan. They feel their noise level
is going to be greatly increased.
Comments by members of the Appropriation Committee :
John Campbell - We are proceeding very cautiously - I
feel $700,000 is just too much money.

John Blaisdell - I am not critizing your plan however,
it is my feeling that it is not prudent to incur an
expenditure of this size at this time.
Meeting adjourned at 9;45 P.M .
