APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE
DATE: January 12, 1978

PRESENT: Donald White , Chairman, Richard Perry, Secretary,
George Silverman, Vice Chairman, Martin Gilman, Peter
Hall, Mitzi Kutchin
I . MINUTEMAN REGIONAL VOCATIONAL HIGHSCHOOL
a. Budget is up $200,000 and Chairman White stated that
he has asked them to take it outs
b. Enrollment down 4 to 5%.
c. Mr. Jackson will meet with the Appropriation Committee
on Monday, January 16, 1978 at 8 :00 P.M.
II . BUDGETS
A review of Expense Budgets was made by the Committee and the
following points were made :
1. Police
a. $150.00 - chair for the dispatcher.
b. $600.00 - four swival desk chairs (second hand ones
bought 6 years ago)
c. $200.00 - molded plastic chairs for detention room.
d. New cruisers will be somewhat smaller and lighter.
e. $4,000 - cost of teletype machine (Peter Hall to
f. $et more information here from Chief Corr)
4, 000 - metering parking lot next to Cary Library.
Messrs. Blaisdell and Silverman very opposed to this.
g. If 5% cutback were put through, level of patrols would
have to be cut.
2. Fire
a. $5,000 - van for safety patrol officer - needed to
carry audio-visual material to schools, etc.
b. mobile radio
c. Console - this will be installed for the purpose of
permitting handicapped people to work and have every-
thing right at arms length.
d. It is the intention of the Fire Chief to eventually
remove all street boxes (6,000 outside maintenance ) .
e. $80, 000 - new engine - all accessories.
f. '58 Mack to be rapaired - new frame , etc. $20,000.
g. Ambulance fees - Chief does not believe that the town —
should charge for ambulance fees. This question is
to be discussed further as the Committee was not in
total agreement.

The Appropriation Committee is requesting more information
from the Town Manager re the following accounts :
1. Account #1090 - what does Hanscom Field Study
involve?
2. More information needed re energy and data
processing.
3. Account #1148 - what other possible cuts?
4. Account #2400 - Town Celebrations - more information
needed here.
Meeting adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 16, 1978 at 7:30 P.M.
