Furash, Chairman, Peter Hall, Vice Chairman- Gen. Gov't. , Donald White , Vice Chairman-Schools, Mitzi Kutchin, Patricia Hagedorn, John Blaisdell, Secretary I . RECREATION a. Budget 1974-$193,000 Survey - indicated the Town would approve $120,000 to 135,000 increase above the current operations budget. The median figure was $136,000. Operating Budget - $110,000 125,000 in Capital Expenditures Total: 235,000 Five Year Plan: $1,175,000 b. Pool The present pool will not be of any value after 2 or 3 years - #1 priority. c . Playfields #7 priority The present fields are now in need of repairs. Funds will be asked for at this Town Meeting. d. Tennis #3 priority Present facilities do not meet the demand. Four additional courts at Diamond Jr. High. e . Community Center #2 priority Oriented toward senior citizens, teenagers and those with special needs. Hopefully this center could be set up in • a closed school building. A sub-committee has been set up to study this project. 256 f. Trails #8 priority To be used for both recreation and transportation. Reimbursements possible here . $10,000joint expenditure between Recreation and Conservation. The Master Plan received unanamous approval from the Board of Selectmen. II . SOLID WASTE a. Selectmen stated that they were very pleased with the Sanitary Landfill report. b. The plan is to keep the landfill open long enough to develop a plan for solid waste disposal. c. There are sufficient funds allotted to execute Phase I of the program for upgrading the landfill - 4i5,000 will be requested for water quality monitoring. d. Frank Sandy stated that closing the landfill will not solve the problems. It is more cost effective to allow it to continue . e . Chairman Kassler stated that it should be good for another + or 5 years. f. Mrs. Miley stated that the rules of the dump should be changed -- not allowing contractors to dump. This was disputed by the other Selectmen. g. Joyce Hals stated that 30/0 of material in the dump is recycleable . Chairman Kassler stated that this Solid Waste Committee should work with other Boards to create a moderate recycling plan. h. Chairman Furash stated that caution should be taken re this. Use of union employees in any recycling plan would increase union cost. Meeting adjourned at 10:30 P.M. Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 3, 1977 at 7:30 P.M.
