APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE

I . PROCEDURE CHANGE
Mr. Perry informed the Appropriation Committee that he had been
so advised by the Town Clerk, I'Iary McDonough, that all future
Appropriation Committee meetings held prior to Town Meeting must
be posted on the Town Office Bulletin Board as official meetings.
II . SCHOOL
a) Union Settlement - reached on Sunday, April 11, 1976
52 - 2 years - 75/25 BC/BS.
b) Pupil-teacher ratios :
17-1 -- K
24-1 -- E
24-1 -- HS
No fixed ratios on specialists, guidance.
c ) lMr. White stated that the above may greatly influence the
proposed school closings.
III . DPW
Town Manager Walter O'Connell joined the meeting to discuss
a Reserve Fund Transfer re gasoline and repair of equipment.
a) At least $18 ,000 will be returned on snow removal.
Chairman Furash stated that he would require a memo
from Town Counsel Cohen re this matter.
b) Town Manager O'Connell stated he is seriously thinking
of putting DPW on gas rations following April 19th.
IV. RESERVE FUND - $27 ,111.88
Upon motions duly made and seconded, it was
moved to transfer the amount of $5,000 from
the Reserve Fund to Account 5450 - Road
Machinery.

V. FIRE
a) A settlement was not reached on Sunday, April 11, 1976.
b) General increase 7%-8% plus 8.4% steps. Well over
9% and above the maximum -- the Town Manager feels
that this is not in the general interest of the Town.
c ) The Union refused to go for the 1 year more under the
present contract. Mr. O'Connell stated that the Town
has gone as far as they can on this. We are a good l2/
apart.
