I . DATES
Chairman Furash asked that the Committee make special
note of the following:
a. December 27 , 1974 - Warrant Closes.
b. March 3, 1975 - Election
c: March 17, 1975 - Town Meeting
d. December 10, 1974 - Financial Meeting to be attended
by Messrs. Blaisdell and Perry.
e. November 19, 1974 - Hearing on the feasibility of
developing new connector roadway between Hartwell
Avenue and Route 128.
f. December 2, 1974 - Conservation meeting with Board
of Selectmen.
II . FIRE DEPARTMENT PRESENTATION
Messrs . Spellman and Silva
Requested 1 full-time prevention officer and four fire-
fighters. Deputy Silva stated that the Department as of
now falls below the standards set by the National Fire
Prevention Association.
When an emergency occurs the return of off-duty men is
required. The increasing population and bicentennial are
going to require additional help Mr. Silva stated.
There should be a fire prevention officer working a five day
week. This would account for the additional full time person.
If priority were given the one fire prevention officer would
be it. Mr. Chapman asked if better utilization of hours could
be made in this areas
Chairman Furash asked the following questions:
a. statistics on fire frequencies,
b. number of false and real alarms ,
c. frequency of major fires vs the minor fires,
d. number of ambulance calls during a 30 day period.

Selectman Kenney stated that perhaps this
was the year to take a long hard look at the
various departments and see if we couldnot raise
the manpower.
Chairman Furash stated that he felt we had not
had the real hard facts presented to us and would
like the Fire Department to come back with more
information.
III . TMMA
Bill Spencer distributed to the Committee a copy
of ideas re "Major Land Acquisition Program�� (attached)
for the Committee to read. He explained that each
Board will have about 15 minutes in which to speak.
Chairman Furash said he felt that this was geared for
Committees with policy making powers. I suggest that
our Committee be called on last Mr. Furash stated.
It was also suggested by the Chairman that the Board
of Assessors attend this meeting.
IV. CAPITAL EXPENDITURES
Mr. Silverman informed the Chairman that he will
be able to meet with the Appropriation Committee
sometime after the first of the year.
Meeting adjourned at 9:55 P.M.
Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 24, 1974.
