Chairman of Schools 'r�hite made the introductory statemeni;
for the Appropriation Committee . He stated that he was
very pleased with the way things were progressing, however,
it was late in time , and the necessity to cut the budget
was still a very lar�e factor. Chairman Bertchl�ld stated --
that she hoped further cuts could be made and a firm figure
shou].d be available by Saturday. ahe too realized that they
�ot a rather late start and so hoped this could be avoided
next year. Lon '�lhite asked if it would be possible to �ive
a "lum� sum" �ud�et exclusive of out-of-state travel.
Chairman Furash did not a�ree completely with this as he
felt it mi�ht appear that a "fast one" i� being pulled.
l�"rs . Swanson stated that she felt the School Committee would
do their best to cut the bud�;et down. In view of this
Chairman White said if that be the case the Appropriation
Committee would g;ive them full support at Town �leeting.
Two areas of further study are : a) supplies , b) capital
outlay.

The School Committee asked the Appronriation Con�mittee if
a Reserve rund of �100,000 for unforseen tuitions could be
set up. Chairman �'urash stated that he saw no reason why
this could not be done, hawever, i4:r. Ferry is to look into
the le�al end of this Fund.
Chapter 766 was discussed briefly and the matter of new
evaluations was brou�;ht up by :�`ir� Fobert. -

II . ADDED P�,RSCPdNEL
Comptro.11er Perry discussed the need for rnore clerical
help in his Financial Department. The vrork load has
increased so much that this is a real need now, i .e. ,
tax bills , union dues, ete . The real peek of flow comes
in mid-summer when many are on vacation, �yir� rerry stated.
The Chairman was in a�reement with this need, however,
it rvas� emphatically st�ted early in the budget jrear that
�� "no new people be added" . So to compromise , it was
� sug�ested by the Chairman and tre Committee that a Reserve
• - Fund Transfer of approximately �4� 000 be made available to
f�;- cover the cost af temporary help durin� these very busy
�._�� times. Mr. Perry was in complete agreement with this idea.
The F3oard of �electmen were so advised.

Chairman Kassler met very briefly with the Committee and the
same confusion and disatisfaction is existing. They need
` more help in their work and have so requested this need
for some 2.� years now.

Selectmen Kenney stated that there are many
different proposals to be investi�ated here.
Possibility of ineters? Restrict parking?

could be an ideal spot to have all tourist
buses parked:
