DISCUSSION OF ARTICLES
Sewer Program: John McSweeney reviewed by use of
slides, the proposed sewer program - total: $76,800.
Article 18 : Water Mains $25,000
Articles
66-67-68 : Street Construction 865,000
Article 19: Sidewalks 525 ,000
Article 16: Curbing $ 5,000
Article 38 : Traffic Signals $ 5,000
Maintenance and up-
grading of existing
signals.
Article 40: Center Beautification $20,000
Widen sidewalks,
planters , etc.
Article 29: Brooks $15,000
Slides were shown
showing deplorable
condition. Rental of
special equipment-
Town to do work.
Article 39; Meriam Street Parking
90 spaces-all day
parking. 500 a day will
bring in $32,000 a yr.
Article 24: DPW road machinery
$85,000 replacement
$ 2,000 radios - this item is still under
consideration as the Chairman does not
see real need here .
Article 88 : Sanitary Landfill
a. $21,600 operating cost
5,500 one-time cost
5,000 fencing, finishing & paving.
Currently costing $91,000 a year, labor
and materials.
b. Two men
$16, 000 plus fringe benefits
c . Log Chipper
$3,600 a year
d. Compacter
$80,000
Article 47: Tennis Courts
The Board of Selectmen for budgetory reasons
will not support - it was felt that the
$40,000 for "old res" was sufficient in
the way of recreational needs .
Article 61: Conservation Fund
The Board of Selectmen have approved
$6,000.
Article 37: Kennel
Various sites are being considered.
i.e. , Westview Ave. - Mountain Rd. Stable
Article 36: Fire Station
Due to very poor presentation given on
February 27, 1973, Chairman Furash cannot
support this and so advised Selectmen Kenney.
It was suggested by the Selectmen that they
have the Fire Chief come in and further explain.
Article 34: Library
Several questions were not answered regarding
this at the February 27, 1973 meeting held
at Clarke Jr. High, Chairman Furash stated.
We wantto be sure that this Library functions
as a Community Center, having highly specialized
groups. The Trustees should make very clear
just what total expenses will be of building
while the library is still in operation.
Article 43: Buckman Tavern
The Chairman feels that no one will vote on
this amount of money only to have a partial
job done . Mr. Perry stated that up to this
point it has not been possible to get the
appropriate people in to give an estimate.

Article 42: Bi-Centennial
Chairman Furash stated that he was
still not happy with the presentation
given by the Bi-centennial Committee .
The project has no substance at all and
we would like to see the Committee again
before Town Meeting.
