"Innovation Plan"
i. Lexington Moving into an Innovation Plan (2 year cycle),
rather than a SIP, as traditionally used.
1. Plan still seen as SIP by state
2. Law requires these plans are posted annually
3. Goal from now through early January is for the
Site Council to develop this plan.
4. Would like to submit this to Dr. Hackett in February
for her feedback, as well as the feedback from the
School Committee.
5. March and April is a time to edit and revise, based
on feedback.
6. Final submission of the innovation plan by May.
7. These plans will be highlighted in our "Joy of
Learning" celebration. Clarke's celebration will
take place in April.
ii. 4 Goals from LPS Strategic Plan serve as the basis for
our school innovation plan: Addressing Equity Gaps,
Redefining Success, Cultivating Student Agency,
Innovating for Sustainable Change.
iii. Questions, Feedback, Comments for this Innovation
Plan.
1. Parent - Clarification of the timeline as well as the
individuals who approve the plan. (Superintendent
and School Committee)
2. J. Clark - Question with respect to data measured
and data collection process.
a. D. Despres - we as a committee decide
what data to collect and how to collect that
data as well as measure our success. Also,
revision is permitted along the way.
3. Parent - where has this shift come from? Is this
just LPS or districts around Lexington?
a. D.Despres - unsure if districts around us,
but this shift is born out of the current
situation and the pandemic.
V. Reviewing Clarke's School Improvement Plan 2021-2022: "Innovation
Plan"
1. Addressing equity gaps at Clarke.
a. Seeing disproportionate numbers in Special Education
testing requests as well as discipline (more specifically
our Black and Brown students and requests for testing
as well as disciplinary suspensions).
i. Also hoping to look at last year's report card data
to see if these gaps exist in academic data as well.
ii. M.Barry-Ng - provided Site Council with an
overview of the new district-wide Student Behavior
Referral process. This will provide us with more
data on our process and allow us an opportunity to
review this data and provide/create innovations.
iii. D. Despres - review of equity gaps as well as our
RTI process. (This will be a focus in our next
meeting).
iv. J. Clark- MCAS data question: Are we using this
to measure student growth?
1. D. Despres: Last year's MCAS has major
validity questions, as it was a different test
and measured the student process
differently. This will be discussed at
tomorrow night's Lexington School
Committee meeting.
V. M. Olsson -when we speak of equity gap, is this
with respect to discipline or IEP's
1. D. Despres - confirm that it refers to both.
vi. E. Sayre - reference to other interventions that are
being implemented this school year.
1. Affinity groups
2. Homework help
VI. Other items/questions
1. M. Alexander - Comment about email to parents regarding the
announcements from Aspen to parents regarding team
assignments. It would be helpful if there was a link in that email.
2. M. Alexander - It would be helpful if the PTO could put a link to
that school announcements in their newsletter.
3. X. Zheng - Helpful that the food is free this year for everyone. Is
there a way to provide feedback for food?
4. E.Sayre - 7th grader really enjoying this year. Not an overload
of homework and much enjoyed.
5. D. Despres - school administration seeing students with a lot of
younger behaviors (almost 1-2 years behind where typically on).
As a school we are really trying to keep students' social and
emotional health in order. This is something as a school we are
trying to monitor.
6. D. Despres - next meeting October 27, 2021 @ 3pm.
