Police Chief Corr and Captain Furdon reviewed police budget. Two main increase
areas are: (1) Gasoline costs estimated up $3,000.
(2) Cruiser costs of $7,000 (small Citations only giving about
23 mpg.)
"If 5% increase made in budget, where would it hurt?" was asked by Chairman
Dailey. Chief Coor answered, "Impossible to cut unless "cruiser time cut."
Fifty-four men is authorized strength.
Chief Bergeron of Fire Department reviewed Fire Department budget.
(1) Ladder truck - 1960 vintage with 21,600 miles. Requesting
replacement, Net cost $210,000 with old one traded.
Rescue truck - 1969 vintage with 16,145 miles to be put
in semi-retirement.
(2) Plus $38,000 for air masks under a separate article. Present
masks are 10 to 30 years old, of which we have 22. Would like
to purchase 24 new ones. $38,000 includes about $16,000 for
new compressor, $2,500 spare tanks (15) , $19,500 for masks (24) .
* SEE NOTE BELOW:
Question of charging by Fire Department to pump out cellars was raised.
According to Fire Chief, Board of Selectmen turned down request a couple
of years ago.
Respectfully submitted,

* Question was asked as to how much presently is expended for "air"? Chief eve
