Members Present:
- Full Committee (11). Present: Geetha Padaki, Chair; Glen Basett; Linda Dixon; Cerise
Jelalian; Gresh Lattimore; Sondra Lucente; Sandy Podgorski. (Absent: Steve Cole, Lorain
Marquis, Julie Miller, Bill Mix.) Quorum: 6 Full Members.
- Subcommittee (15): Yifang Gong, Mary Hutton, Aneesha Karody, Samita Mandelia, Sue
Sterling. (Absent: Reeta Pandey, Ashley Rooney, Wayne Miller, Sam Zales.) 6 vacancies.
7:04 pm Meeting called to order by Geetha.
Minutes of September 8, 2021, approved.
Anessha Karody introduced herself to the Committee.
Upcoming Veterans Day(November 11, 2021)
1. Veterans Car Parade (Glen):
- Glen hosted a working group on September 29 to coordinate the details.
- Same car route as last year: up Mass Ave from Community Center/ Marriott Rd, turn left at
Minute Man statute, turn right into St Brigit's parking lot. Glen will coordinate with Lexington PD
and provide pens to mark each car. Workers to arrive at Community Center at noon. Drive off
at 12:45pm. Car drivers to register by October 22.
- Gina Rada, Veterans Services Director, will purchase small car flags. 50 used last year; only 25
returned.
- 8:30am: Football Team will post flags at the Obelisk.
- LHS Band to play on Battle Green as cars drive by.
2. $10 Gift Cards to Veterans (Glen, Gina
- Gina to help cull our Veterans Email List.
- Glen will see that a blast email to all Veterans is sent, requesting confirmation of their local
addresses (October 15th). He will also be involved in drafting the cover letter accompanying the
$10 Dunkin Donuts gift card, which is in lieu of the usual Veterans Day Breakfast. These emails
will also invite Veterans to join the Car Parade.
- 25 gift cards remain from last year; about 128 new cards required. The Town will purchase these
new cards.
3. High School Essay Contest (Sue)
- Michael Egbert coordinates these Junior Yr essays.
- Special goodie bags will be presented to the winner/s.
4. Multimedia High School Art Contest (Sue)
- Sue is working with Art Teacher Alethea Roy and her assistants April Maloney and Deb Hankins
at LHS. Minuteman Tech will also be invited to participate.
- Lexington Art Walk (encouraging retailers to give window space to artists)will be invited to
display these creations. The Community Center will be invited to display these creations.
5. Cary Library Webinar (Mary)
- Last year 100 viewers watched the panel of Veterans.
- This year Mary may have Cary host another recorded panel or have Essay Contest Winners
read their essays. Still being planned.
Publicity (Sandy)
- Gina will work with Linda to coordinate articles in the Minuteman and the Community Center
newsletter. Linda and Askley will coordinate an article in the Colonial Times/Jim Shaw.
- There are 4 Town Pages on Facebook to post information. Our TCC has its own page too.
- Select Board will be asked to approve all our activities on September 27.
