1. Welcome and Thank Yous! - We will miss you, Melissa!

.................................
3. Update from Jackie Daley-for next school - Working on school improvement plan, meeting in
year: Aug to review at admin retreat
SECTIONS - What can we take from all the covid era
TEACHERS practices that can be continued (outdoor eating,
HIRING handwashing routines, air circulation)?
SUMMER WORK/FACILITIES - Look at data that are gathered from school
DEI WORK-Affinity groups and more advisory team to prioritize goals for SIP
- Sections: it appears on paper that we are losing
a section and therefore losing a teacher. This is
not the case. Ms. Kipp (?) at K is not continuing
as a classroom teacher, another teacher out on
maternity leave for a year.
- 5th grade will have 5 sections, 4 at 4th, 4 at 3rd,
3 at 2nd, 3 at 1 st, 3 at K.
- Metco program numbers coming in soon,
Barbara Hamilton - hoping to bring in more
Kindergarteners.
- Connect with Sheila Lawrence about Metco
families friends and share info about the program
to encourage connections and participation next
year
- Teachers: class placement has been completed,
there will be a couple of moves from grade to
grade. Ms. Horowicz is moving to 5th. 4th grade
team is not changing, 3rd grade team the same,
2nd grade: Erica returning to (?), 2nd grade not
changing, K not changing
- From Dr. Hackett, Unit C (instructional
assistants) had quite a bit of movement, but
there was only one position that was cut at
Harrington. Unit D (lunch coverage teachers and
office assistants) no cuts.
- Several IA's are moving on and hiring for next
year will begin
- Summer work: playground work is happening,
ASL panel is being included on the structure,
colors have been selected (blue palette), mid
July - mid Aug work, we are not hosting summer
programming this year which makes it easier on
all building staff, custodial staff will be doing a lot
of touch ups this summer
- New Custodian joining us on Monday!
- June 24-25 they are painting the parking lot
lines, general maintenance around the building
- Plan is to return in the fall as normal, materials
like rugs, etc. ok, no social distancing guidelines
- Question from parent, is HVAC going to be
checked again before school starts? No extra
check, maintenance as usual
- DEI: Mr. Walsh just ordered a few thousand
dollars of books increasing diversity in literature,
Affinity Groups will begin next year for upper
elementary students, curriculum in social studies
and soc/emot includes identity conversations.
We will have less of a reactive approach based
on current events and more of a proactive
approach and regular ongoing discussions. One
private school had affinity groups for families in
the evening with sitters for kids which created a
natural affinity group for kids. This was
well-received and organic.
- Series with middle and HS students who
participate in an interview with Mr. Wan. 4/5th
grade students were invited to join. Older
students provided a bio and an interview was
facilitated. Powerful to hear other older kids
talking about their personal experiences
connected to their identity. There was a lot more
excitement after the first presentation for the
4/5th graders. Today, the last student is coming
in who identifies as queer. This is an optional
activity for Harrington students. They receive a
bio before the presentation to decide if they want
to attend.
- In the past, there have been some unofficial
affinity groups mainly for Boston students. The
Young Kings and Brown Girls will continue.
- Next year, the goal is to expand these groups.
Having adults speak to the power of these
spaces will be key in advocating and informing
the community on the importance of these
groups. There may be folks who see this as
segregating.
- Our faculty is currently not representative of our
student body, but administration is aware of this
and working toward a shift.
4. NEW MEMBERSHIP-elections - Community Rep: Michelle leaving? Larry maybe?
- Teacher Reps: Liz's second year,Julie Harrington and
SIP 2020-21,u;IEu. ,E.. Julie Scafidi continuing
- Parent Reps: Melissa Departing, Emily Departing,
Larry Departing, Ryan staying, Karen staying
- First meeting will be in Sept to establish the group
New business: - Congratulations to teachers and administrators for
Next meeting: September 2021 making it through this crazy year
- School staff will hopefully take a real break this
summer!
- We will vote on the minutes electronically in the next
couple of days
