The Massachusetts Department of
Agricultural Resources (MDAR)
announced that Spotted LanternflySpotted Lanternfly
has been found in Worcester County,
the easternmost known infestation.
“The spotted lanternfly can have
devastating impacts on
Massachusetts’ agricultural industry,
including on a number of farms and
orchards in this part of the state that
we want to protect from this
pest,” said MDAR Commissioner Johnsaid MDAR Commissioner John
Lebeaux.Lebeaux. “Early detection and
reporting is the best way to slow the
spread of spotted lanternfly.
Members of the public, particularly
those in the Fitchburg area, have
seen this pest, they are asked to
report it as soon as possible.”

Provide habitat for local wildlife, save
time and money by leaving the leaves
on your property.
They provide nutritious mulch,
overwintering habitat for insects and
other wildlife, and you spend less
energy and money collecting and
sending leaves elsewhere.

Native Pollinator Plant Sale
A range of hard-to-find perennial
native pollinator plants will be for sale
at the Lexington Living Landscapes
table at Sustainability Day at the
Farmer’s Market on Worthen Road,
Tuesday October 5th from 2-6pm.
Profits from the sale will go towards
supplies for the new Lexington Native
Plant Nursery.
Plants will include Narrow Leaf
Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum
tenuifolium), Sweet Goldenrod
(Solidago odora), Showy Goldenrod
(Solidago speciosa), Hairy
Beardtongue (Penstemon hirsutus),
Hyssop-leaf Boneset (Eupatorium
hyssopifolium), fall blooming Asters,
and many more.
Many of the plants for sale are not
eaten by rabbits because the leaves
have a strong taste. There will be
guidance at the table for plant
selection according to your growing
conditions. Plants will be from $3-$8
with the majority at $5. Payment can
be made by cash, check, Paypal, or
Venmo.

Meadow will provide an opportunity
to use iNaturalist to see what can be
learned using this handy smart
phone resource. Plants will be the
focus (since they are easiest to
photograph) but we'll look at other
organisms as available.

Late fall is one of the best times to visit the Whipple Hill
Conservation property. With the leaves off the trees the
property’s magnificent stone walls and rocky features of the
landscape really stand out.
Meet at the signed entrance to the property at the top of
Winchester Drive opposite Berkshire Drive. Steady rain cancels.
