Chair Anne Eccles called the July 15,2021 Historic Districts Commission meeting to order at 5:25pm
Discussion Items
The Historic District Commission met to educate the public on the Hosmer House and to discuss its future.
Chair, Anne Eccles introduced Marilyn Fenollosa, Chair of the Historical Commission. Ms. Fenollosa gave a
presentation on the history of the Hosmer House.
Edward Adelman summarized the studies that have been done on the Hosmer House. There is now a need to
decide on its future to make room for the new police station. The study shows that the most feasible thing to do is
relocate the building, preserve the structure, and provide additional housing at the lowest possible cost to the
Town of Lexington. Another consensus was to preserve the area for Town events. It is noted that the relocation
and preservation of the Hosmer House must proceed well in advance of the Police Station project. The Police
Station project will require two HDC approvals. One being the relocation and preservation of the Hosmer House
and the second being the actual design of the new Police Station facility. The moving of the historic building is
challenging in many ways: cost, distance, topography, and the overhead utilities.
There was a short Public Comment segment beginning at 5:45pm:
There is no current proposal to move the Hosmer House.
The two potential addresses for the new Hosmer House are 3 Harrington, which is supported by the Historical
District Commission and 41 Hancock. The next step is on the Select Board. Ms. Jill Hai requested clarification
on the 12 month demolition delay through the Historical Commission. There is no demolition delay through the
Historic District Commission.
The Historic District Commission will hold a meeting in the future with public comment and more information
will be dispersed.
Meeting adjourned at 6:05pm
