Brian Ledhal, new neighbor
1. Discuss and vote on Library story walk
Final proposal is for 24 stanchions. There will be one more walk through with all stakeholders
represented for final locations to be determined. Pending final walk through the proposal is
approved with a vote of 5-0
2. Confirm switch grass installation for scoreboard on Field #2
The committee discussed the Rec Department consultant suggestion of inkberry plants instead
of switch grass. Wes Wirth had previously suggested switch grass and the committee agreed to
implement the plan for up to 20 switch grass plants for up to $500 by a vote of 4-1. The one no
vote was because of the news from Lisa O'Brien that there would not be padding installed on
the concrete pads at this time.
3.Discuss stone dust erosion and drainage solutions
This season has seen excessive stone dust erosion due to heavy rains both at the entrance to
the paths from the Lincoln Street parking area and in the granite forest. Brian met with Bob
Barnard and Jim McLaughlin separately to look at solutions. Brian and Barnard cleaned the
trench drains at the entrance by the Lincoln St parking area, which should help. The committee
will seek proposals from contractors to bolster the drainage and repair the eroded stone dust at
both areas.
4. LexFUN! Temporary Halloween story walk
The committee discussed a request from LexFUN to bring back their little kids story walk from
last Halloween. The story walk would be done with 30 temporary story boards dispersed
similarly to the plan for the permanent library story walk. The story walk would be installed on
or just before October 23 and would run through Sunday October 31. LexFUN would then host
a gathering at Lincoln Park on Sunday October 31 (Halloween) from 10am-12pm. LexFUN has
committed to remove all story walk signs and any residual mess by fpm on Halloween. The
committee voted to approve this program with a vote of 5-0.
5. Utility box painting
Lisa O'Brien described the interest of the Rec Dept to hire an artist to paint various utility boxes
around town including one at Lincoln Park. Cristina Burwell volunteered to serve on the
committee as a representative from the Lincoln Park Committee
6. New business
David Williams mentioned that he met with two different groups who were looking to sponsor
the implementation of a bench in Lincoln Park. The committee voted 5-0 to proceed with the
installation of a granite bench on the Baskin Road side of the paved bikeway off of Field 3 on the
Worthern Rd side.
Brian Kelley and perhaps others will endeavor to attend the Recreation Dept meeting in October
to discuss happenings at Lincoln Park, the prospect of funding a LP "master plan" and other
future capital projects.
Meeting ended at about 5:50pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Brian Kelley
