Discussing Members of the BAC -
George Gagliardi - the CAAL folks worked with Garlic Mustard harvesting folks
who organized a ton of cycling groups and there's one member who would be
great (will try to find the name of the contact)
Betty - we need to list out what we want from a Student Liaison
Mark - what would a student Liaison want, is it lack of safe routes to the
high school?
Select Board
° Bike/Ped plan
o Safe Routes in Lexington to bike and walk
o Enables more sustainable trips under 2 miles in town
° Bike Liaison Staff
Richard Canale - calls out the rt2 separate lane and the building at Waltham
St near the Waltham line where there will be new construction with bike lanes
George and Kevin - calling out that Sharrows are a mistake, we should not
encourage those, several members suggest that it's better to sign/paint for
"Bikes may take the lane"
Susan Barrett observes that this should also go into TSG for protected lanes'
Jim observes that there are a lot of kids riding through town and we need to
protect them and use them to provide more changes. Be reactive to everyone
who is riding now.
Omar - it would be great to provide a plan which we can't do, but we should
tackle writing that plan ourselves.
Kevin suggests taking Cambridge/Somerville and stealing liberally
Mark pushes for choosing an interim chair to organize, Betty is willing to do
some work for organizing and doing chair duties, but need folks to help write
a bike plan. Has gathered a group of folks willing to do subcommittee work.
Richard mentions that over the winter there will be discussions with DPW
about Scenic Byway funding for infrastructure on Mass Ave out of
Lexington. There will be a bunch of blue sky ideas about funding.
Susan's Liaison report - has asked a member in her department to tackle
starting on the Bike Friendly Community application and reaching across the
town staff to find things. She thinks our events and some other things will
really help our application, even though we have not done well with bike
lanes / bike plan. Her concern is huge around the bike plan. Asks that
after the new year the committee discuss the various parts of the plan in an
agenda. Smart Cycling and Instructor Training classes are important but need
more seats filled. Bike Rode and Bike Smart coming up in
September/October. Wants to plan May bike events for next year as soon as
the new year happens. SRTS needs a liaison. A meeting with School Staff
(PE/Wellness) is also upcoming.
Richard points out from Planning/Comprehensive Plan that there is a survey
for the comprehensive plan https://Iexingtonnext.org/
