Agenda
I. Welcome
11. Approval of November 2015 Minutes
• Approved by staff and parents present
111. 15 -16 SIP Updates: 1:1 (Pads / WIN evaluation process / Other
• Monaco: As we have discussed previously, we cleaned out the SIP, highlighting just the items
we would be working on this year.
• Rachel's Challenge has expanded, where we are now making connections to so many
different aspects. Students got involved, making personal speeches about their involvement;
the choral teacher got involved creating a theme song, etc. This will be expanded in January
with grade -level lessons and assemblies.
• Student Government has been changed and expanded - stronger student voice and much
more involvement in community service and school life.
• LGTBQ - making Clarke a safe space for students who are questioning who they are and who
they want to be. This follows a movement within the district at a recent PD session and will
continue with staff PD later in the year.
• WIN Evaluation Process: we implemented a staff survey to formatively assess how the
process has gone so far.
o Teacher: we want to hear the voice of parents and kids - what kinds of things do we
want to know?
o Teacher: I would like to hear about stress levels - reduced? Is this a fun part of their
day?
o Parent: are students getting into (accessing) activities they are interested in.
o Principal: do students now have less homework because of WIN block?
o Teacher: what would students like to be offered
o Parent: is anyone looking at the individual student and what they choose?
IV. School Building Project update / Town Meeting 12/ 7/15
• Monday town meeting - approved further study, releasing roughly 5 million dollars for study,
plans and elementary modular classrooms. Next would be a town meeting vote to put it out for
a resident vote for final approval - additions and renovations to Clarke, Diamond, Hastings,
etc.
• Part of the plan was to place modular units at Bridge, Bowman or Fiske.
• Still conversations around what is to be done at both Clarke and Diamond, including new
bus /car infrastructure at the front of Clarke.
• With ten extra classrooms, it will hopefully address the increasing enrollment, as well as to
relieve some of the classroom sharing across disciplines and current compression of programs
like Sped, ELL, Engineering, music and drama etc.
• Goal is to build at both schools, avoiding one really large school and one small school.
• Parent: if you are expanding, you'll have additional staff, which means additional parking
concerns?
o Minor increase, but with expanded parking plan (hopefully), we should be ok.
