Cary Hall Holiday LightingLexington Center Holiday Lighting:
and
Colleen Smith and Justine Wirtanen, exterior architectural changes in the Battle Green District.
Representatives from the Holiday Lighting Committee presented a scheme for the Town Center winter
season lighting that includes lights on trees and illuminated garlands on buildings and light posts. This is
the lighting scheme that has been installed in the center in past years.
In addition, the Committee would like to outline the eave and pediment of Cary Hall with lights.
The Commission was supportive of the proposed lighting schemes.
The HDC does not have jurisdiction over landscape plantings, such as trees, and by extension, lights on
trees. No Certificate of Appropriateness is required for these lights.
According to the enabling legislation, a Certificate of Appropriateness need not be required for certain
temporary installations. The Commission will vote to clarify the definition of “temporary” later in the
hearing.
A Certificate of Appropriateness is typically required for lighting and attachments on structures.
Should the applicants wish to have the holiday lighting installed for a period that exceeds the definition
of temporary, a formal hearing will be required.
