Pato Half-staff display of the United States flag on Town property is intended as a visible, public symbol of respect, upon their death, for the heroic service and sacrifice of military personnel and the service of public officials. Flag on the Battle Green: The United States flag on the Battle Green will be lowered to half- staff at the direction of the Board of Selectmen or its designee, or in accordance with an order issued by the President of the United States or the Governor of the Commonwealth. See Board of Selectmen policy, Lowering the Flag on the Battle Green, dated November 28, 2005. Flag at Municipal Buildings or Grounds: The United State flag on municipal buildings and grounds under the jurisdiction of the Town Manager will be lowered to half-staff in accordance with the Memorial Events schedule set forth below, or in accordance with an order issued by the President of the United States or the Governor of the Commonwealth. Memorial Events: On Death of Flag Displayed at Half-Staff U.S. President or Former President For 30 Days from the Date of Death U.S. Vice President; Chief Justice or Retired Chief Justice of the U.S.; Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives For 10 Days from the Date of Death Associate Justice of Supreme Court; Cabinet Member; Former Vice President; Governor of a State, territory or possession; U. S. House; Minority Leader of U. S. House On the Day of Death until Interment U.S. Senator from Massachusetts; U.S. Representative from Massachusetts Representing Lexington; Member of Congress On the Day of Death and the following day Governor of Massachusetts On the Day of Death until Interment Lexington Police Officer, Firefighter or military personnel killed in the line of Duty On the Day of Death until Interment Peace Officers Memorial Day This Day Unless that Day is also Armed Forces Day Lexington Townwide Elected Officials On the day of Death until Interment Former Lexington Townwide Elected Officials On the Day of Interment Other Individuals As Determined by the Board of Selectmen
