Guest: Chris Filadoro, Public Grounds Superintendent and Tree Warden. Update on Minuteman Restoration Project Chris Filadoro reported that Josh Crane has entered into a formal contract with the Town. Work is scheduled to begin soon after Patriots Day. We assume that renovation work on the Minutemen Memorial will be done at the same time. The following points were covered in the ensuing discussion: 1) Josh Crane made a strong recommendation that the Town create a Curatorial Committee with whom he would deal exclusively to resolve the unforeseen details that are bound to come up during the project. 2) We should verify that the fountain is included in the work. 3) Chris confirmed that all work would be done on site. 4) DPW is assumed to take responsibility for handling traffic issues. 5) If the Monuments & Memorials Committee can supply content, DPW can construct a number of informational display boards around the worksite to inform the public about the details of the restoration project. 6) Suzie Barry suggests checking with the Historic District Commission to obtain permission to display the boards. 7) We need publicity in the Lexington Minuteman and the Colonial Times, as well as the Town website. This needs more discussion. World War I Commemoration The group discussed an event planned for Veterans' Day 2018, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War L There are a group of trees on the Battle Green that were originally planted to honor those Lexingtonians killed in WWI, with plaques placed at the foot of the trees. According to Chris, several plaques are missing and those remaining are in disrepair. His department is in the process of replacing them, assuming there are still enough trees to accommodate all the plaques. We discussed the possibility of including a stop as the Veterans' Day Parade loops around the Battle Green, to rededicate the plaques and trees. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m. Submitted by Linda Dixon
