Whereas: consumers are encouraged to,whenever passible,purchase fruits,vegetables,grains,
meats,beverages and all pmducts made from them that are raised,value-a.dded and
consumed in Massachusetts; and
Whereas: nutritious food,alang with clean air and water are the necessities of life and a11 wha
work in agriculture play an essential role in stewarding these precious resources;and
Whereas: local faad outlets and producers in I.exington,including but nat limited ta the
Lexington Farmers'Market and the Le�cington Community Farm,help to build a
strong sustainable local food system and serve as public and community gathering
places;and
Whereas: Lexington farmers and food producers contribute ta the local sustainability of
Lexington's natural ecosystems,economic resilience,and cammunity health;and
play a critical part in combating local effects af climate change.
IYDW, THEREFORE, WE THE SEL�CT BOARD of the Town of Lexington, Massachusetts, da
hereby proclaim the first Tuesday in Octaber as

in the Town of Lexington and show support for local faod initiatives and recagnize their
importance for creating a more sustainable cammunity.
