FUND FOR LEXINGTON BOARD
December 14, 2020
4:00 p.m., held by remote participation
Present: Doug Lucente, Chair; Suzie Barry; Norman Cohen; Alan Fields; Ed Grant; Paul Shupe;
Alan Wrigley; Melissa Interess, Director of Human Services; Tony Serio, Assistant Director of
Family and Youth Services; and Kim Katzenback, Executive Clerk to the Select Board.
Mr. Lucente stated the remote participation meeting is being held in accordance with Governor
Baker's March 12, 2020 Executive Order suspending certain provisions of the Open Meeting
Law to allow remote participation during Massachusetts' State of Emergency due to the outbreak
of COVID-19.
1) Money Available as of November 30, 2020
Mr. Lucente reported that as of May 31, 2020, the Fund for Lexington Income balance was
$29,121.58 and the Principal balance was $297,684.99.
2) Human Services Report: June 1 to November 30, 2020
Ms. Interess, Director of Human Services, reported the following activity for the funds dispersed
for the period: Fund for Lexington - $2,665 for rent payment; $299.95 out of the Heating
Assistance Pilot(Remaining balance - $1,887.33); Human Services Emergency Fund - $6,099.86
($2.271.10 for SA- Moving expenses, first/last rent, $280.00 for JF- Hotel during power
outage, $95.00 for TP - Cell phone bill, $1,253.76 for OM - Overdue medical/dental bills
$2,200 for UN - Rent (not COVID-related); and Lexpress subsidized passes fiscal year- 22
passes, value of$3,480.
Ms. Interess stated that the Human Services Emergency Fund currently has a healthy balance
from which to provide financial assistance to residents affected by COVID-19. In addition to the
$25,000 provided from the Fund for Lexington, a $250,000 donation from Takeda
Pharmaceutical Company was deposited into the Human Services Emergency Fund. She also
stated that the Lexington Housing Assistance Board dissolved its subgroup LeHAC and
transferred LeHAC's funds of approximately $9,000 into the Human Services Emergency Fund.
Ms. Interess reported that, for this reporting period, $21,396 has been disbursed from the Human
Services Emergency Fund to assist 15 families in need due to COVID-19.
Upon a motion duly made and seconded, by roll call, the Fund for Lexington Board voted 7-0 to
give $4000 for the Human Services Heating Assistance Fund
Melissa Interess reported Planned disbursement of$9,000 in wish list items to eligible
families. She stated the following contributions have been made: Contributions: $2,000
Youth Commission; $1,000 Grace Chapel; $3,000 Rotary Club. She asked if the Fund for
Lexington Board would make a contribution.
Tony Serio stated this year's program will supply gifts to families in need.
Upon a motion duly made and seconded, by roll call, the Fund for Lexington Board voted 7-0 to
give $3500 contribution to the Human Services Holiday Gift Program for families in need.
3) Next Meeting Dates
The Board reviewed and confirmed the following dates for upcoming Fund for Lexington Board
meetings:
• March 15, 2021
• June 14, 2021
• September 13, 2021
• December 13, 2021
4) Approval of Minutes
On a motion duly made and seconded,by roll call, the Fund for Lexington Board voted 7-0 to
approve the September 21, 2020 meeting minutes.
5) Board Membership
Reverend Paul Shupe announced his resignation from the Fund for Lexington Board as he will
be moving. The Board thanked Reverend Shupe for his years of service on the Fund for
Lexington Board and to the Town of Lexington and its residents.
