Our citizens are proud to share the name which honors the opening battle of the American Revolution. Sincerely all Halfacre ay r Town of Lexington, South Carolina Ran R TOWN OF LEXINGTON TOWN ADMINISTRATOR T,Randall dall I{alfacre D.Britt 1 Dole MAILING ADDRESS MAYOR PRO-TEM Post Office Box 397 Hazel Livingston Lexington,SC 29071 h INFORMATION COUNCIL " 803-359-4164 Danny Fraaicr www.lcxsc.coM Steve MacDougall FAX Kathy Maness a Todd Shevchik 803-359-4460 Tcd Stambolitis ' A PROCLAMATION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL FOR THE TOWN OF LEXINGTON, SOUTH CAROLINA RECOGNIZING THE 300TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS WHEREAS, the Town of Lexington, Massachusetts, was incorporated in 1713 by the colonial legislature, thus becoming the first "Lexington" in the United States of America to be incorporated as a Town; AND WHEREAS, The Town of Lexington, Massachusetts, was the site of one of the opening battles of the American Revolution on April 19, 1775; AND WHEREAS, since the American Revolution, tyvcnty one (21) other cities and towns across the United States have adopted the name "Lexington"; AND WHEREAS, the County of Lexington in South Carolina was established in 1785, changing the name of the territory from Saxe Gotha to Lexington in honor of the Massachusetts Revolutionary War battle and in 1861,the Town of Lexington, South Carolina was incorporated; AND WHEREAS, the Mayor, Council and Citizens of the Town of Lexington, South Carolina, are also proud to bear this historic name as their own; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that on behalf of their citizens, the Mayor and Council for the Town of Lexington, South Carolina, do hereby recognize and congratulate the Town of Lexington, Massachusetts, upon this monumental occasion, the celebration of its 300th Anniversary as an incorporated town in the State of Massachusetts and the United States of America.
