HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-06-04-HDC-min PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION Meeting broadcasted by LexMedia Minutes of Thursday, June 4, 2015 Selectmen’s Meeting Room, Lexington Town Offices 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA 7:00 PM Commissioners present: Lynn Hopkins, Chairperson, Britta McCarthy, Paul Ross and Anne Eccles Associate Commissioners, Jon Wardwell, Nancy Shepard and Robin Lovett Department Clerk: Linda Rainville FORMAL HEARINGS 18 Belfry Terrace: Henry Lui, presented plans for changes in the roof and dormers. He will raise the ridge approximately two (2) feet which will increase the slope and add a full dormer. (Neighbor, Molly Nye is delighted with the plan). Approved – All in favor 2015C- 927 Massachusetts Avenue: Iana Vitkova, spoke with the Commission regarding installing a 3 foot high picket style wood fence (painted white). The fence will be placed along her front yard. Approved – All in favor 2015C- 1752-1756 Massachusetts Avenue: Jeffrey Lyon, presented a three phase plan for restoration of the brick façade. Phase One – second floor will include erect staging to the roofline, remove and clean the brick from the veneer between the two second floor bays. Mr. Lyons will return with a mockup of the brick and mortar. Remove and replace the steel lintels above the 2 single windows and the triple windows. Install at least one of the interior roof drains. Each of the bay windows will be stripped and re-trimmed. The copper roof/flashing replaced with the same material. Phase Three – To complete the previously approved work in the COFA 2012C-72 dated November 1, 2012. Continued to review Phase Two. Approved – All in favor 2015C- 1403 Massachusetts Avenue: Nancy Sofen, exterior architectural changes in the Battle Green District (MOVE TO INFORMAL) 1062 Massachusetts Avenue: Brian Sparrow, presented a plan to replace all windows with 6 over 1 wood sash, simulated divided light windows. He will strip and replace the roof shingles. The new shingles will be Estate Gray. The deck will be removed and replaced with the same size deck using mahogany decking (3/4” by 4” and stained “mahogany flame”. The entire house will be repainted either “Manchester Tan” or “Coventry Gray”. The shutters will be refurbished and painted black. Mr. Sparrow requested permission to post a temporary sign during construction. Mr. Sparrow will inform the HDC what color he decided on for the house paint. He will also inform the Commission what windows he will be installing. Approved – All in favor 2015C- 17 Depot Square: Steven Cunningham presented plans to install a 9” x 8’ sign above the window. The letters will be mounted on the existing façade. The letters will be ¼” cut steel painted black. Approved – All in favor PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION Meeting broadcasted by LexMedia 2015C- 14 Maple Street: Michael Martignetti, exterior architectural changes in the East Village District CONTINUED HEARINGS 7 Muzzey Street: Carol Fournier returned to the HDC to present the plan for the sign. She took the Commissions suggestions into consideration and presents a sign that is 36” wide by 24” high. The sign will be 1” thick V-carved sign foam. Black with gold paint. Approved – All in favor 2015C 1009 Massachusetts Ave: Balam Willemson and Bernice Yeung, returned to the HDC with paint colors for his house. The siding will be “Wilmington Tan” and the trim will be “Northampton Putty”. Mr. Willemson will also install a new exterior wall sconce and a metal 6”x6” vent for a wood stove. Approved – All in favor 2015C INFORMAL HEARINGS 46 Bedford Street : Dan Yu, signage in the Battle Green District – no one appeared to present 6 Bruce Road: Anne Nuss discussed her plan to put up a six foot privacy fence. It was recommended that she not install a white, vinyl fence. Ms. Nuss agreed to install a wood fence and either paint it or leave it to weather naturally. 1 Oakland Street: Colin Smith, presented plans to add a new mudroom and a new master bedroom. Remove some palladium windows. Questions were posed regarding the bay window in the front. 1403 Massachusetts Avenue: Nancy Sofen, spoke with HDC regarding changing the parking area. There was some discussion from abutters about the speed in which cars will come through the parking area. Also the “green” area was discussed.
