LHS School Site Council Meeting met on December 14, 2015 from 6:15-7:45 PM in the Library
Media Center.
Present: Laura Lasa, Nancy Shepard, Suzanne Lau, Ann Redmon, Walter Richardson, Dave
Wininger, Katherine Manning, Eileen Jay, Polly Kienle, Elise Rowley, Sharon Kendall, Elise
Santiago, Alex Mclaughlin. Guest: John Murray, Sonia Rowley.
Absent: Elizabeth Moughty Curtin, Kristin Tissera
I. The November 16 minutes were approved with no changes
II. Announcements from Council members
A Site Council member has taken out papers to run for an open School Committee seat.
III. Evaluating Competitive School Culture
The committee began a multi-month discussion on the evaluation of a competitive
school culture. The group loosely defined the term ÇcompetitionÈ in order to guide the
subsequent small group work.
The focus of the small group brainstorm was identifying the positive and unhealthy
outcomes of a competitive school culture for students.
The discussion will continue with the group collating the identified elements and then
following the same process for the impact on faculty and parents.
