Members Present: John Frey (Chair), Gerry Paul, Karen Longeteig, Anne Senning, Jim Wood,
Jewel Kuljian, Chris Filadoro(Superintendent of Public Grounds)Suzie Barry(Selectman liaison),
David Rines (Rines Arborworks, LLC)
Members Absent: Nancy Sofen
1. Jim Wood was appointed scribe. The minutes of October 8, 2015 were approved as
corrected.
2. Tree Bylaw Removal Applications and Activity-Chris Filadoro handed out and
discussed the current Tree Bylaw Removal Applications and Activity. It is
incorporated in these minutes as an attachment.
3. Lexington Center Tree Planting Update-Chris F reported that 7 elms have been
planted in the Center, paying particular attention to the planting sites. Matt Foti did the
planting. Compaction is a major issue, iron grates may be considered, or rubber pads,
however they are not attractive to look at. Structural soil was used on the South side
of the Center.
4. a) Fall Tree Planting 2015-Chris F. said that his plan is to start planting on November
13, 2015. Due to total work demands he will use outside contractors to help plant.
b) Tree Death due to gas leaks - John Frey asked if we had lost any trees due to gas
leaks? Chris F. said not to his knowledge.
5. Progress on Rines’ bid proposal for Tree Inventory- Rines went over his proposal with
the Tree Committee. He will submit a firm cost between 12.6K and 18.6K to the Town
and Anne and Chris will review it and present their comments to the Tree Committee.
6. Mass Ave.(between Percy and Bloomfield) 10/15/15 Dave Pinnsonneault site visit,
final tree planting sites?-Chris F. has contacted the owner at the corner of Percy&
Bloomfield and he will possibly accept four trees. Griffiths (1364 Mass Ave-next house
toward the center) was contacted but no agreement. Chris will plant as many trees as
possible. Jim W. raised the question of possibly using structural soil in the two pits
opposite the Church.
7. (a) Proposed new section of the Lexington Tree Bylaw, which has as its intent the
increasing protection of 30 inch or greater trees. Gerry P. presented this document
(attached to these minutes as modified) to the Tree Committee and will coordinate it
with Town Counsel.
(b) Incentive for Replanting large Canopy Species (attached to these minutes), which
modifies Para 120-8.C.1 was recommended by Karen L. and seconded by Gerry P.
Ginna’s Residential Policy Committee tree initiatives discussion was postponed as
were items 8 through 11.
12. Adjourned and went outside for the 2015 Tree Committee Photo.
