Discussion of roundtable presentation i. Principal: discussed flipped classroom philosophy, where students are doing the reading at home, which is then implemented and assess in the classroom - identifying which students have proficiency. ii. Parent: sounds better than the reading taking place in the classroom and the work being done at home, where the parent does not know if the answers are correct or not (referring to online practice (IXL) sites and not having feedback to assess their child's learning in real time). iii. Teacher: encourage parents to contact if they have questions about how much a parent should be helping. iv. Principal: the world of learning is so different with technology. IV. School Improvement Plan • Principal: All schools in the district have goals 1 & 2. Each school can add additional goals based on needs. We have incorporated so much into our SIP in the past - need to simplify. Goal - examine the first two goals, identifying what we should be looking at. Goal 1: working together, collecting data, discuss progress = increase achievement. o There is so many different kinds of data used in our school. o Turner: find items that are up and running (a part of what we do) eliminating it as a bullet point in the SIP. o What is the work that needs to continue to be done? Do we want to keep the larger implementation step with bullet points under? • continue to find ways to implement an RTI model • using task force to examine impacts of schedule changes with TASC. o Admin: shift to standardized mindset /instruction? Need to focus on the standards not achieved. This could work with the content team work /subgoal. o Admin: the SIP has become a full list of all the things we do or have done. It should be a highlight board of most effective. o Monaco: these are the things we said we would be focus on - how did we do? o Mission /Vision - can be removed. o Professional Relationships - this was a focus from a previous year and has now become a central part of the school. Removed from SIP - sticking to highlights focused on now. o Monaco: Are there other big topics that go under Goal 1 that need to be included? o Admin - if we include the I/E expansion - should be included in both goal 1 & 2. A sub goal under goal 1 and a sub goal in goal 2 (actions steps). Goal 2: Pro - Social Behavior: o Rachel's Challenge, Linked -up, Project Adventure - all actions steps that are used to promote pro - social behavior. Not a sub goal but actions steps. o Principal: Use the YRBS to better communicate results /needs - what areas need to be addressed? This follows up with improving communication. o Social work referral - does this process need to more defined and /or communicated. The goal is our being proactive to address student needs. o Admin: do we include ALICE protocol as a way to relieve stress and increase awareness? Goal for Facilities and /or Enrollment? o Principal: working with facilities, CO to monitor enrollment numbers and subsequent needs. o Teacher: Add goal for Incident Management training - ALICE protocol. Next Steps: • Draft of 2015 -2016 is due to Dr. Ash by May 7th. • Schedule meeting for week prior to - Tuesday, May 5th
