Present: Laura Lasa, Liz Moughty Curtin, Nancy Shepard, Suzanne Lau, Ann Redmon, Walter Richardson, Alex Mclaughlin, Sharon Kendall, Elise Rowley, Dave Winninger, Katherine Manning Absent: Eileen Jay, Polly Kienle, Elise Santiago, Kristin Tissera I. September 21 minutes approved 6:15 II. Announcements from Council members 6:20 • Required PSAT in schools - Seniors used the time for college visits or preparation on college applications - Approximately 980 juniors and sophomores took the test; those who did not used the time in a study hall to complete homework and work on long -term projects - Freshman participated in a variety of team - building activities • Other announcements - Quarter one has seen few five -day weeks; assessments have been limited - Feedback on the Aspen gradebook will be scheduled for a later meeting - Community Coalition Update: The group has goals similar to SHAC (Student Health Advisory Committee); the focus is on how the community can be helpful in addressing the competitive environment and student responses. III. Readiness and Emergency Management Systems (REMS) 6:40 • The potential timeline is located in the School Improvement Plan • The roll -out of the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) process will be a scaffold over two years • The October 26 faculty meeting focused on user - friendly terms that will assist faculty in supporting student safety • ALICE procedures provide increased autonomy (the ability to respond to the `fight or flight' instinct) • The Superintendent is supporting increased security through the capital budget, particularly the ability to more efficiently lock exterior doors on campus IV.
