Attendance

• Not present: Charlie Price, Shawn Newell (Dep Public Facilities), Gerry McGrath, Mike
DaRu
Discussion
• The Minuteman Statue & Minute Men Memorial Restoration was discussed at great
lengths. The Committee feels as though it is important to be involved with the process of
this restoration. A public input session is expected to occur sometime in September
regarding how the planned restoration would involve a change in visual color of the
statue. The public input session will provide an opportunity for the community to voice
their opinion concerning the color of the statue. With limited time to prepare, the
committee is looking at ways to productively contribute /offer recommendations during
the proposed session.
• The group agreed that moving forward, the purpose of the Monuments and Memorials
Committee should involve project recommendations, subsequently forwarding to board
of selectmen for action.
• Members of the committee have been actively adding Lexington monuments /memorials
to a new database. Members will continue adding to the inventory, and a rough draft will
be sent out once complete. The group agreed that photos of the inventory should be
added to the database.
• No update concerning the Somerset Road WWII Memorial Project. The group discussed
the potential to plant trees and coordinate with C. Filadoro.
Housekeeping
• The next Monuments and Memorials Committee Meeting was scheduled for September
3, 2015 @ 6:OOp.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
