3 Update on Bus Registration
Bus registration is in progress and thus far 1800 registrations have been received.
There were a few manufacturer's hiccups encountered when the online registration
process began that were not apparent during the program's test runs, but these
have been rectified. The LPS Transportation office has been assisting the parents
who have called asking for help with the program, but to date the volume of calls
given the number of registrations is low
Registration reminders have been distributed using Global Connect and have been
distributed to all of the schools list serves and newsletters. In addition, the four
Avalon facilities that house the majority of the Town's distance-eligible students
have posted the LPS bus registration posters in their community centers and their
front desk staffs have been briefed on the registration process
4 LHS Honors Marketing Class
Sam Alpert, the School Committee student representative, has suggested using the
LHS Marketing class to help promote school transportation and safety The class
teacher, Mr Cole, was receptive and the final project of the class will focus on
students creating multiple public service announcements using different media.
LPS Transportation and Safe Routes provided a list of possible project topics. The
class assignment is attached. It is hoped that this can be a long running topic for
class material.
5 School Traffic Surveys
Ms. Dunn is exploring the possibility that the same traffic engineering consulting
firm involved with the Safe Routes to School/DPW School Zone grant may be also
able to perform an evaluation of school traffic on school properties
