ACROSS Lexington – Phase 2 Route Outlines
(Subject to revision from field work)

Bikeway-Battleroad Connector
Type: Connector with additional spur option
Proposed Route: Garfield to Meagherville to Cedar to Martingale to Freemont to
Constitution to Paul Revere to Mass Ave across 128 to Wood Street to Fiske Hill,
MMNHP
Comments/Questions:
Route/Spur Options:
A.Alternate route to Freemont - Exiting Meagherville trail at Cedar turn right on
paved entrance to golf course, proceed down through parking lot to paved path
skirting end of pond, turn left into wooded area where new trail will be required to
reach existing entrance between 53 and 59 Freemont.
B.Spur – Continue along Cedar to Poor Farm entrance between 129 and 121 Cedar,
traverse Poor Farm, exit 67 Cedar and 91 Hill Street, Cedar to Childs to Hastings
to Hayden Center between buildings to Worthen to Route B connection.
Investigate connection through Lincoln Park to Route B.
Connection options beyond end point at Battle Road Trail
A.Continue along Wood Street to NSTAR power line corridor and beyond to
connect to West Lexington Greenway Trail possibilities.
B.Connect through Minuteman National Historical Park trails or continue along
Mass Ave to hotel property entrance, continue down to light on Marrett Road,
cross Marrett Road and use entrance to One Cranberry Hill to parking lot entrance
to Cranberry Hill trails.
Shire/Hayden Woods
Type: Loop utilizing Route B
Proposed Route: Route B at Bridge School across playing field to Coppersmyth trail to
Marrett Road, west on Marrett to Lincoln, left on Lincoln to Idlywilde entrance, through
Idlywilde to Middle Street, right on Middle to Lincoln Street to Weston Street to Shade
Street to fire road entrance to pending Conservation easement on Shire property, along
proposed Shire trail to Spring, cross Spring to either proposed easement across Beal
property or to Woodcliffe Road to Munroe to Hayden Woods, through Hayden Woods to
Vallyfield Road to Grassland/Route B
Comments/Questions:
Requires completion of Conservation Restriction agreement between
Town and Shire before trail can be planned and installed.
Connection Options:
A.Continue on Lincoln Street under Rte 128 to trail entrance into Cambridge
Watershed property on the north side of Lincoln Street to Cranberry Hill trail
connections.
B.Continue through Hayden Woods to old trail requiring boardwalk construction
improvements exiting onto Hayden Avenue near Waltham Street intersection,
cross Waltham Street, turn south under Rte 2 to entrance to Brookhaven trail
system.
Paint Mine/Simonds Brook/Wright Farm
Type: Loop
Proposed Route (Current): Park under power lines on Turning Mill. Enter Paint Mine and
follow trail down hill and bearing right under power lines. Exit right onto Turning Mill.
Left on Turning Mill to right on Gould to Grove. Cross Grove and take trail entrance into
Simond Brook across from Gould Rd. Follow trail down to power line corridor. Turn left
under power lines back to Grove. Cross Grove and re-enter trail under power lines back
through Paint Mine back to starting point.
Proposed Route (Future – When Wright Farm trails installed): Enter Landlocked Forest
trail system from car park on Turning Mill. Follow trails over to Wright Farm. Exist
Wright Farm onto Grove. Take Volunteer Way to Rangeway to trail entrance to Simonds
Brook.
Comments/Questions:
Check status of trail entrance to Simonds Brook off of Grove. Is this a legal
easement?
Connection Options:
A.Connections to Bedford Old Res via Winter Street playground or continuing
along Grove Street to marked entrance.
B.Future connection to Bedford Street along proposed route of West Lexington
Greenway.
C.Connection across Rte 28 via Grove Street to Willards Woods/Route A
Dunback-Western Greenway Connector
Type: Connector
Proposed Route: Begin at Four Corners trail intersection in Dunback on Route B. Trail to
Bowman to Philip Road to Worthen Road East to Pleasant, under Route 2 to Webster
Road to Trodden Path to Blossom Street via foot path to Concord Avenue to new trail
entrance to Town Conservation property to be created to link up with trail system on
DCR/Lot 1 property.
Comments/Questions:
Requires new trail construction.
Connection Options:
A.Western Greenway Trail through DCR/Lot 1 trail connections.
B.Connection to Hayden Woods trail system via Brookhaven Nature Path system,
permission to be negotiated.
