Reports/Updates : Richard Canale of the Planning Board reported that the Battle Road Scenic Byway • Committee has hired a consultant to work on the public identity and logo for the Committee. This group consists of the Minute Man National Historical Park plus the towns of Lexington, Lincoln, Concord and Arlington. There are loops that con- nect Virginia Road. (PK please confirm) Keith went over the “Logo Memorandum”written in response to Oakes Plimpton’s • dissatisfaction with the ACROSS logo. We agreed to tone down some of the lan- guage and then voted to approve the memo. Susan reported on the new ACROSS brochure and the acrylic holders that have • been placed in various locations around town. 3200 brochures went home with Middle and Elementary school students. In all, 7500 of the 12,000 brochures printed have been distributed. A LHS student has been enlisted to keep the hold- ers filled. He will receive community service credits for his efforts. Susan is also working on finding a volunteer to push ACROSS at the Farmers’Market and keep the Facebook page updated. She estimates that the 12,000 brochures will be used up by the time the next phase of routes are completed and new brochures are needed. Also, Dawn McKenna likes the brochure and may be able to help find some funds for the next printing. Susan and Ruth discussed some thoughts and edits for the GCC page on the • Town website. Ruth brought some printouts to help show her ideas for improve- ments. Kevin also had some site-building comments and feedback for the Town IT department. Since the Town runs the website we are constrained as to design and layout, though we can control the content. We can let them know what we would like to see there. Keith reiterated his idea for a Friends of ACROSS Lexington group. Such of a • group would be able to tend to ACROSS related tasks and activities that are be- yond the mission of the GCC. Current Business Review : Potential Route E was walked recently by Peggy, Bob, Richard, and Bill Hadley • and Dave Pinsonneault of the Town staff. It looks like it needs 32 signs and 9 posts. Richard would like us to take advantage of existing easements, particularly the easement off Martingale and Fremont, and the area known as the Fremont Street Playground. For this route it would be nice if we could put some signage on the federal MMNHP land. Richard can help us get permission for this. We discussed possible wording for the terminus sign on spur routes, so route us- • ers will know when they are leaving the ACROSS route system. The connection from Route B to Meagherville still needs to be finalized. There is • some concern about traffic and safety on Hastings Rd. We can go forward with Route E and hold off on the spur for a while. The MAPC (Metropolitan Area Planning Commission) is impressed with ACROSS • and wants to come take a look. Visitors will come on Thursday, October 8. More details will be forthcoming. New Business: Gil Bengiat and his son Elias presented an idea for a patch/award system for • ACROSS routes, similar to that for those who climb all the 4000-footers of the White Mountains. If you finish all the ACROSS routes and/or visit all the Town con- servation properties you could get a patch and a certificate. This is a project that might also involve the CLC (Citizens for Lexington Conservation) and the Conser- vation Stewards. Gil will speak with Bob regarding which conservation lands would be appropriate for this project and then come to the September meeting to let us know how the plan has developed. This is something that might appropriately be maintained by a Friends of ACROSS group. Next Meeting : September 28, 2015, 4:30-6:00pm, DPW Training Room Future meeting dates: October 26, November 23, December 14 Pending Matters: - Conservation Restriction Data Base Respectfully Submitted by Alexandra Dohan, Secretary
