Review of Section K and L policies with Superintendent Ash. • KA - School /Community Relations Goals • KBA - School /Parent Relations Goals Delete "general goals" to "goals" • KBBA - Non - Custodial Parents' Rights Jim - is this updated? • KBE - Relations with Parent Organizations Keep "child" in #4 Change "children" to "students" in second #2 • KCB - Community Involvement in Decision - making • KCD - Fundraising /Contributions * * * * * * Use MASC version and recirculate to Dr. Ash, Judy, Jessie The school system is responsible for providing large capital items that are standard use for school buildings, including playgrounds, technology, copiers, classroom furniture and major equipment. Fund raising for the purpose of purchasing large capital items that are standard use for school buildings and grounds, and providing financial resources for the purpose of hiring building staff and /or changing established curricula is beyond the scope of responsibility for parent- teacher organizations and members of the community at large. The School Committee urges all school - affiliated groups to work collaboratively with the principals and school councils throughout the year to define appropriate enrichment objectives. All gifts valued over $500.00 must be approved by the School Committee in advance of raising funds and procuring items. Fund raising projects which entail door -to -door solicitations by students of grades K -5 will not be allowed. Fund raising projects which entail which door -to -door solicitations by students grades 6 -12 should be discouraged. Exceptions may be made by the Principals for projects which relate directly to services or performances by students (plays, musicals, concerts, etc.). • KCD -R - Procedures to Implement LPS Fundraising /Contribution Delete • KDA - Release of Information about LPS School Programs and Events Change title Cross reference to JRD • JRD - fix formatting • KDB - Public's Right to Know Par. 1- add to except "except such materials that are exempt from public records laws, including but not limited to records regarding individual personnel matters, litigation and collective bargaining. • KDD - News Media Relations/ News Releases #3 General communication to parents is under principal. In Incident Command Management Communications Officer is Carol Pilarski Principals should not be writing press release in a crisis. News releases in cases of emergencies or other extraordinary events, are the responsibility of the Superintendent or a Communications Officer appointed by the Superintendent. All statements made to the press by other staff members of the particular school must be cleared with the Principal. 2. Approved minutes from March 11, 16, 18, 25, and April 7. The meeting was adjourned at 3:18pm.
