Lexington Youth Commission
Minutes of the meeting held on Thursday, September 10t11, 2015
Members Present: Mark Solomon, Andrea Michelson, Andrew Thomas, Peter Lawrence,
William Thomas, Courtney Walsh, Shaun McLaughlin, Ashley Walsh, Nic Fusco, Thomas
Barry, Joseph Lahiff, Avery Gehring, Rachel Michelson, Mitchell Heyda, Hadar Boker, Jimmie
Lane, Meghan Buschini, Venuri DeSilva, Ganga Nair, Anne Reilly, Nicholas Newton -Cheh,

Members Absent: Abbie Ortyl and Karen Duprey
1. We discussed what LYC is about and what we do for the community. We also went over
the importance of showing up to meetings and talked about how members should contact
their team leader, Courtney Walsh or Will Thomas if they are unable to make it to a
meeting. We then briefly went over all the community service events we are planning on
doing this year. Lastly, everyone introduced themselves to the Commission.
2. A car wash fundraiser at LHS was discussed but the high school has no free times for a
car wash until October. Therefore, we decided to not do a car wash this fall and instead
do one in the spring.
3. Food Pantry Service Project - The Commission discussed which candies we would like to
sell for the Food Pantry Fundraiser. The candies that we will be selling are Kit Kats,
Reese's, Twix, Skittles, and Swedish Fish. Rachel, Will, Andrew, Andrea, Mark, and
Avery will set up the candy bags at 6:30 on October 8th before the meeting. Candy
bags and money envelopes will be handed out at October 8t' meeting. We would like
everyone to sell their candy by November 12th meeting, and be able to make Food
Pantry donation in time for the holidays.
4. Members were asked to brainstorm ideas for a tee shirt design for the next meeting, on
October 8Th. We will put present all designs and vote on LYC 2015/2016 Tee Shirt. We
will have cost of tee shirt /sweatshirt at that meeting.
5. We discussed the LYC Island Clean -Up. It is Thursday, September 24th at 5:15, with
a rain date of October 1st. The island is located between the baseball field /football
field and playground. We will be clearing old plants, planting new, watering, and
placing pumpkins. Karen will have all the supplies and material there for us, and
Shannon will bring pizza. The people who signed up to attend are Mark, Andrea,
Andrew, Peter, Courtney, Shaun, Ashley, Avery, Rachel, Mitchell, Hadar, Meghan,
Venuri, Ganga, Anne, Nicholas, and Jack. People who said they could maybe come
are Will, Nic, Thomas, Joseph, Jimmie, Noah, and Ishaan.
6. We talked about upcoming events in October, November, and December. The Halloween
decorating for the Center is Thursday, October 29Th approximately 11:00 — 12:00, times
will be confirmed at next meeting. We also talked about the Turkey Drive and how it
was important to ensure the privacy of the recipients by not talking about where we
delivered turkeys. This event will take place on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving,
after the Powder Puff Game. Lastly, we talked about what events we would be
fundraising at for our Holiday event, how the money we would like to raise to be given to
approximately 80 children in need in Lexington through Toys R Us gift cards. We hope
to raise $2500.
7. Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 8th at 7:00 pm in the Parker Room
at Town Hall. Please remember to bring your photo id's, Human Resources will be there
to collect the CORI Forms (which we have) and take a copy of your ID.
