HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-05-07-HDC-minPUBLIC MEETING NOTICE HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION Meeting broadcasted by LexMedia Minutes of Thursday, May 7, 2015 Selectmen's Meeting Room, Lexington Town Offices 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA 7:00 PM Commissioners present: Lynn Hopkins, Chairperson, Britta McCarthy and Anne Eccles Associate Commissioners, Jon Wardwell and Marilyn Fenollosa Department Clerk: Linda Rainville FORMAL HEARINGS 7:00 PM 33 -35 Bedford Street: Thomas Wood, presented plans to replace approximately 118 windows. He will use Windsor wood windows with muntons and jambs made of composite material. The windows will be painted the same as existing windows. He will send a copy of the cut sheet to be approved. Approved — All in favor 2015C -22 7:10 PM 1840 Massachusetts Avenue: Mitch Allen, showed the Commission plans to replace 25 upper story windows. The replacement windows will be wood, 8/8 with thermos pane glass. The windows are custom made Jeld -win windows. They will be painted to match existing windows. He will also be repairing some dry rot and replacing shutters in the front of the building. In the back of the building he will install storm windows on three windows. Mr. Allen will remove the air conditioner in the back of the building and replace sash. Mr. Mitchell will send a picture of the ATM machine area for the Commission. Approved — All in favor 2015C -23 7:20 PM 6 Meriam Street: Gerard Frank presented plans to install an 18" x 18" elevator shaft vent, painted black (BM #3132- 10). The vent will penetrate the roof and extend approximately 3' above roof. Approved — All in favor 2015C -24 CONTINUED HEARINGS 7 Muzzev Street: Carol Fournier, Fastsigns, signage in the Battle Green District. No one appeared 847 Massachusetts Avenue: Colin Smith, presented changes in the paint colors originally approved. The Main Body will be "Sparrow" AF -720, the trim and porch floor will be "Winds Breath" OC -24, vertical siding will be "Quarry Rock" 1568. Mr. Smith also proposed a change of the front door and mudroom door to a 2 -panel door, all wood with flat panels. Mr. Smith will return with a paint color for the doors. Approved — All in favor 2015C -10 INFORMAL HEARINGS PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION Meeting broadcasted by LexMedia 14 Maple Street: Michael Martignetti, and Carl Oldenburg presented plans to demolish the existing house and build a new single family home. The new house will have a "farm house" look. The will build the house at the north side of the lot. They have received permission to have the driveway to enter from Byron Ave. Although the HDC frowns on demolishing homes in the "District ", this home has no architectural significance. The Commission would like to see a landscape plan. Town Office Building: Colin Smith, spoke with the Commission regarding some changes in the plans for signage at the Town Office Buildings. At this point Mr. Smith is just looking for suggestions and comments about the signs themselves and placement of the signs. 1752 -1768 Massachusetts Avenue: Jeffrey Lyons, requested an extension on two COFAs. The first COFA is number 2013C -49 approved June 6, 2013. This COFA was for 19 Muzzey Street, walkway revisions. The second COFA is number 2012C -72 approved November 1, 2012. This COFA was for 1762 Massachusetts Avenue to repair and the front parapet, and change the lights. Approved — All in favor Continued OTHER BUSINESS Discussion New Commissioners - Lynn Hopkins introduced Anne Eccles and Robin Lovett and welcome them to the Commission City Center Streetscape Improvements - Joe Welch is attending this meeting and will report back to Lynn Ride Studio Parklet - There has been no response from the letter that was sent regarding the construction cones. Mass Avenue lights and intersection changes /Mass DOT - Cary Hall Paving - There needs to be a safe and smooth surface. The BOS are discussing this at the next meeting on May 11th, Lynn Hopkins will attend this meeting. HDC Guideline revisions - J. Wardwell will work on the window information section. PRIOR TO THE MEETING IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH COMMISSIONER TO VIEW ALL PROPERTIES ON THE AGENDA.
