Update on survey presentations It was announced that Marian Cohen would present the findings of the 20/20 Vision Survey to the First Friday forum of the Lexington League of Women Voters on February 6, 2015 at Cary Memorial Library. 20/20 Vision Committee members were encouraged to attend. It was also mentioned that the Lexington Chamber of Commerce was arranging for a similar presentation adapted to the business community. The tentative dates for the presentation to the Chamber group was February 10, 2015, weather permitting. Discussion with Donna Hooper, Chief Information Officer Donna Hooper described the scope and duties of her recently formed position of Chief Information Officer for the Town of Lexington. She provided a handout with a power point presentation outlining the vision and various operation aspects of the Information Services Department. It was highlighted that the Town seeks to promote efficient delivery of services, government transparency and community engagement. In addition to the design of the information system itself, efforts will be dedicated to train Town staff in the area of data management. The website redesign is also a priority as well as continuous adaptation to new information system technologies as they become available. Regarding a need for an eventual 20/20 scoping group and task force on the subject of possible “digital gaps” among the various population segments of the community, the observation was made that it is perhaps too soon to determine this need. Potential new 20/20 focus areas: Regarding issues of diversity beyond race and ethnicity, Ginna Johnson pointed out that “mansionization” trends can affect the town’s overall housing stock and may thus limit economic diversity. Regarding the future of e- government, there was consensus in leaving this topic on the list of possible focus areas. Regarding capital planning and fiscal challenges, it was pointed out that new capital expenditures are already on the short-term horizon and will only increase in the coming years. It was agreed that Fernando Quezada would discuss potential new focus areas with members from the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board and School Committee. Next steps for study of community models of multicultural integration. Awaiting budget approval. Need to assign 20/20 Vision Committee member to oversee this effort including the hiring of outside professional. Meeting adjourned: 9:00 a.m. Respectfully submitted: F. Quezada Next meeting: Friday, February 27, 2015 in the Parker Room
