Sustainable Lexington Committee
Minutes of Meeting of October 28, 2014
A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC) was held on October 28, 2014
at the Hadley Building. A quorum of four was present.
Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Chair
Todd Rhodes, Sheryl Rosner, Dan Voss
Members Absent: Rick Reibstein
Other Attendees: Joe Pato, Greg OÈBrien, Judith Glicksen
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm.

Meeting Minutes
Meeting minutes were approved for July 22, September 2, and September 30.

Community Choice Aggregation
Mr. Sandeen identified that the sub-committee presented to the Selectmen on
September 17 to request agreement to take a warrant article to Town Meeting in the
spring.
J. Pato recommended getting support from the Appropriations Committee
along with support from the Sustainable Lexington Committee and the sub-
team (with Paul Chernak from the Energy Committee)

Solar Task Force
Rooftop
Complete except for the high school
DOER had contract questions à once those are resolve the project will move
forward
The system is scheduled to go live in December
Compost Facility
There was a meeting today with the vendor (Brightfields, DPW, the police, D.
Voss and M. Sandeen.
They are finalizing the MOU.
Need to start permitting in December to keep spot in the queue for the SRECs.
Need a letter of intent to get the application for connection à so the task force
needs to meet with the Selectmen.
Plan to meet with the Selectmen on November 17; then the letter of
intent can be prepared in December.

Letter for Environmental Massachusetts
The committee recommended that the Board of Selectment send the letter prepared by
Environmental Massachusetts to the Governor elect.

Next Step Living Community Solar
Mr. Rhodes presented an opportunity being offered by Next Step Living (NSL). The
concept is that NSL would establish a solar installation and sell panels to residents
who are unable to put solar on their own roofs.
Mr. Sandeen identified that the town of Harvard has home rule that Lexington would
need to adopt and have a warrant article to implement community solar and waive the
taxes on the installation.
Mr. Pato identified that Hascom is considering 17 solar site à four of which are in
Lexington.

Better Buildings
The task force needs to establish standards for new buildings and retrofits. The task
force includes Paul Pinelli (former Permanent Buldings Committee (PBC) and LEED
Silver advocate from 10 years ago) and John Himmel from (PBC) is not available
may be able to be a supporting member.

Air Source Heat Pump
Mr. Rhodes provided background on the air source heat pump program.
Mr. Sandeen identified that other towns did Solarize on their own so there is
precedent for a town to conduct such a program.
Heat pump incentives (Alterative Energy Credits, AEC) are coming in the spring
from DOER.
Climate Action Plan
Assignments for the climate action plan are:
Energy: D. Voss
Buildings: M. Sandeen
Transportation: T. Rhodes
Emergency Preparedness: S. Rosner
Water: Greg OÈBrien
Public Health: R. Reibstein
