Climate Action Plans (M. Sandeen)
• Mr. Sandeen described a plan established by Rotterdam where the city is planning to
be fully resilient by 2015. They are basing their adaptation plans on future scenarios
that could occur over the next 10 years. For example, in 2025 there will be:
• x storms of over y inches in a year
• x days over 90F,y days over 100F
• x ice storms
• x snow storms of over y inches
• Ms. Rosner emphasized that adaptation needs to be managed regionally.
• Mr. Voss provided the following definitions of resilience:
• "Long term resilience" is achieved through adaptation
• "Short term resilience" is the ability to deliver key services during an event.
• Individuals should be prepared to deal with an electrical outage for 5
days.
• Up to 10 days people are running out of food and generators are
running out of fuel.
• The Town needs to be able to provide critical services during this time.
Including maintaining critical supply chains (e.g., getting drugs to
patients)
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm
